Chemistry is a branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed. It also involves the properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change. Chemistry is important to life. The environment is composed of many chemicals without identification of chemicals we wouldn’t know what chemicals are safe to have around or which chemicals are harmful and dangerous to our bodies. To answer the enduring question, how do we gain knowledge to understand a chemical system, particularly since we cannot see atoms or molecules? I have learned that everything is made up of chemicals. Chemistry will help me in the study of physical therapy. Without chemistry, physical therapists wouldn’t be able to understand reactions that occur in the body like muscle movements. Chemistry also plays a huge role in the enabling physical therapist to better understand the medications that the patient is taking. Some medications can affect the overall function of the muscle mobility. An important way chemistry is used in physical therapy is through the use of iontophoresis therapy. Iontophoresis therapy is an electrical stimulation used to quickly distribute medication. From chemistry, like charged ions repel and opposite charges ions attracted we learned this in “experiment 4 how can geckos walk up walls?” with inter-molecular forces. This enables the damaged tissues to heal more efficiently and decrease inflammation and pain by placing on one electrode on the injury with the other electrode on the body close by. Thankfully to chemistry, physical therapist is able to help injured patient feel better and help the injury heal
