Picture this, it’s a lovely Friday night and you decide to attend your school varsity football game. You walk along the bleachers and see the cheerleaders cheering on their team, you think nothing of it. But when the question arises whether or not cheerleading is a sport, you think of the cheerleaders on the sidelines, but don’t look at it competitively. Now, I am here to answer the question: Why is cheerleading considered a sport? Cheerleading is often seen not as a sport for a couple of reasons: commonly, it is viewed more as a supportive activity for other sports that focus on leading cheers and boosting crowd engagement. In addition, its competitive aspect involves demanding physical activity and skill, which is frequently overlooked by …show more content…
And just like a hockey team, players have a specific role that is important to the team's success, and every cheerleader has an important position to fulfill in their routine. Cheerleaders are out competing for titles, pushing themselves to hit every stunt and skill, just like any other athlete. Bringing it all together, cheerleading is a blend of various athletic elements, each sharing common aspects when looking deeper. It is a sport that embodies the importance of physical challenge and strategic collaboration, just like with any traditional sport in its demand for excellence. In conclusion, cheerleading shows just as many elements as any other sport would show. Considering a sport requires physical exertion, strategic teamwork, and competitive elements, cheerleading can check off all those elements. By acknowledging cheerleading as a sport, it opens doors for funding, scholarships, and more opportunities for athletes in the cheerleading community. So, whether you are a cheerleader or simply just an athlete, it is important to care about the recognition of cheerleading as a legitimate
