The first reason why I believe that euthanizing your animal is completely acceptable is if your animal companion is suffering, and you want to end their pain. “Is It Ethical To Euthanize Your Dog” by Elliot D. Cohen, he gives us a few examples that support my view of this argument. Case in point, Cohen says “Of course, it was ethical he was suffering.” (par. 4) Following after that, my family and I, we took our dog to the vet to “put her to sleep” because she kept whimpering all the time, and we knew it was the right thing to do.…
If I were in the shoes of Josephine Schmoe, I would most probably feel overwhelmed to receive results as the ones issued by the personality assessments administered to her: MMPI-2 and MCMI-III. The test results might suggest that Josephine suffers from a personality disorder. If the test results are actually accurate, these can help Josephine to receive appropriate treatment and medication to help her function and cope more effectively with all she is handling. On the other hand, if these results are not correct, these can cause more harm to her such as causing depression, isolating her from friends and loved ones, or even worst: receive a referral to a psychiatric hospital due to their suicidal idealizations.…
My first reason why I think that Charlie shouldn’t have this operation is because once he becomes smarter he loses his job which he loved dearly. His co-workers thought that he was too smart and that now it was harder…
The author defines several definitions in progression in this narrative from the brain death, “beating-heart cadaver” and organ donor. The main point for me is, that if we make an early decision to be a donor, the death actually can be transformed to something extraordinary and gives live. “To be able, as a dead person, to make a gift of this magnitude is phenomenal.” (27) Roach appeals everyone to consider saving lives not only no loves ones, but to a stranger.…
Well… Mind telling me why I.Qs are about as important as food & water? Yeah, I know, it´s apparently a measure of intelligence… But STILL. ¨Flowers for Algernon¨ is basically a Science Fiction written by Daniel Keyes. A man named Charlie Gordon has a I.Q. of 68, and consequently, is increased to 204 after an A.I. operation.…
A journalist must conform to a well defined set of ethical codes to make sure they report the story truly and get their information without the use of any illegal or unethical practices. In the movie “State of Play” Cal McCaffrey perpetrates a multitude of unethical and illegal actions to get his story. His practices included such things as, not identifying that he is a reporter to those he was questioning, illegally recording an interview, and withholding evidence in a murder investigation. In The State of Play, McCaffrey committed multiple unethical journalistic actions, one of which was recording an interview without the subjects direct consent to being taped.…
With nothing having to do with the surgery being documented, there is not anyone to turn to if something goes wrong. Nothing is more valuable than one’s life, so the patients are going to extreme measures in order to stay alive. I truly do not see any wrong by the patients who took measures into their own hands. A solution that was mentioned in the essay that I agree with is that it should be legal for humans to sell their organs. If one is healthy enough to donate an organ to one in need, I do not see the problem.…
There is still, to this day, a debate on whether Terri Schiavo was conscious or not while she was hospitalized. It was widely accepted by experts that Schiavo was in a PVS, which implies that she had no cognitive function, and thus was unaware of her surroundings. If she were in a PVS coma, she would have not been aware of the war happening between her loved ones, and thus, would not have suffered through it. However, some experts such as Dr. William Polk Cheshire, Jr, believed that she was in a minimally conscious state, which means that she did have some awareness of what was going on around her (Grossenbacher 421). In the case that Terri Schiavo was, in fact, conscious during the events leading to her feeding tube being unplugged, her Autonomy…
It is unethical for the criminal justice system to let private companies make a lot of profit from inmates, their families, and the community. For companies like JPay to charge a lot for families to send money to their loved ones, it is so unethical. Most of those families have to sacrifice everything that they have to give their loved ones some money. Pat Taylor is a single mother whose son is serving a 20-year prison sentence. She tries to send her son as much money as she can so she can help him out.…
In the film there are so many different characters, some good and some bad. I think that actor Matt Dillon’s character Officer John Ryan is one of the characters that was animalistic. He wasn’t the only one that was, but he is one of the characters that really stuck out. He was racist and treated black people unfairly for being black. When he stopped an SUV for matching the description of the one stolen from the District Attorney of L.A. he wasn’t right.…
Do you agree or disagree with Chuck Davis and the advice that he gave Leonard Bryner? I totally disagree. Chuck is expressing an uninformed opinion due to he has not spent the effort to find out exactly what activity based management and costing are attempting to do. Therefore, he has no real ability to offer any constructive criticism of the possible benefits of these two approaches. Was there anything wrong or unethical in the behavior that Chuck Davis displayed?…
Medical funds are used to find cures and treatments for the ill or diseased. If one is sick, without the money they have little to no chance of being cured. Wasting important funding on an experiment, at best, could harbor terrible outcomes. If people vote yes for artificial intelligence, they can cause negative long-term effects for the patient or patient's, waste the government’s medical money, or cause overall mayhem throughout the world. Starting off, anger can cause one to perform rash actions.…
Our Actions and Their Consequences Have you ever wanted to change yourself? You may want to rethink that. During the short story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, Charlie undergoes a experimental surgery to increase his intelligence. The story is a collection of all of Charlie’s progress reports from before to after his surgery. He continually writes better and with more intellect, and then he begins to decline.…
Photoshop is behind many photojournalists’ downfalls. There is a thing line between correcting the color or brightness in the photo and cropping in or out an unwanted object in the photo. Being a photojournalist you have to be extra cautious in order to not cross that line. However, last year in 2016, photographer Steve McCurry was accused of doing this very thing. McCurry was first called out by Paolo Viglione, a fellow photographer, when an image from Cuba was found where the Photoshop editing had been messed up.(3)…
Many believe that it is unethical to take a life in order to save a life, however others believe that it is morally correct to save another life, knowing that your own can’t be saved. In the case of Baby Theresa in 1992, a newborn infant who suffered with anencephaly, parents, Laura Campo and Justin Pearson, decided that they wanted to donate their child 's organs upon hearing that their newborn wouldn’t survive for too long. Anencephaly is a serious birth defect in the formation of a baby’s neural tube development. There is an absence of a major part of the brain, skull, and scalp that, normally, occurs during the embryonic development. A baby born with anencephaly may be stillborn or survive only a few hours to a few days.…
