Why Is Calpurnia A Better Mother Figure

In my opinion, Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra. Calpurnia is a better mother figure. One reason why Calpurnia is a good mother figure is that she cares more and she has own kids. She kept company with Scout when Jem would not play with her. She is also strict, and has good morals. When the kids do something wrong, she always corrects them immediately. Atticus says, “ She’s tried to bring them up in her lights, and Cal’s lights are pretty good…(Lee, 183)” Additionally, she has had experience with kids and knows how to control them. She has at least one son, Zeebo, which the kids meet at church. Another reason why Calpurnia is better than Aunt Alexandra is that she has stayed longer with Jem and Scout. In effect with

Calpurnia is respectful of the community of Maycomb, yet she will not tolerate mean and bias people. Jem, Scout and Calpurnia are on the front porch one day when Mr. Radley walks by and Calpurnia says to the kids, “There goes the meanest man God blew breath into” (12 Lee). It is not in Calpurnia’s nature to disrespect people, however she realizes Mr. Radley is a bad person and points this out to the children. One Sunday, when Atticus is not home, Calpurnia decides to bring Scout and Jem to church with her. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the children’s mother died before the book even started. Because of this, Calpurnia and Atticus took up the maternal roles in their lives. Both Calpurnia and Atticus demonstrate these traits within the book which proves them to be successful maternal substitutes. One of Calpurnia’s roles as a maternal figure was being a disciplinarian.…

To Re-Make a Movie If a newer film adaption of To Kill A Mockingbird were created, it would need to include many of the characters/scenes that were left out of the first film. Aunt Alexandra, Dolphus Raymond, and the Finch’s Landing are some of the main points of the novel that were left out of the first movie. Although, one may argue that these characters/scenes were left out of the first film adaption because they are unimportant, provide no lessons, and are useless towards the plot. But in truth, Aunt Alexandra and Dolphus Raymond are both characters that symbolize great lessons and would make the movie more intense. As for the Finch’s Landing, if the audience wants intensity, Scout walloping the big mouthed Cousin Francis will definitely…
