Why Is Brutus A Hero In Julius Caesar

Have you ever encountered an event when someone was betrayed and killed by their best friend? In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Caesar was betrayed and killed by his best friend Brutus and the conspirators. Caesar killed Pompeii (a general who is liked by some conspirators) and that is when planning to kill Caesar started. After the war with Pompeii, citizens of Rome label Caesar as a hero and lots of people support Career. Brutus and the other conspirators are planning to kill Caesar because Caesar is getting too much power (citizen’s support). Caesar was first stab by a conspirator name Casca and the other conspirators, including Brutus rises from kneeling and stab Caesar to death. Brutus is giving his speech, he is saying he is honorable and that is why the plebeians should believe him, “Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may believe”(III.ii.15-17). Brutus’ ethos is weak because he is just saying he is honorable. Brutus is saying the plebeians should believe him because he is honorable, if someone is honorable does that mean people should believe him? There is no proof that Brutus is honorable and just because Brutus is honorable, Brutus can just kill Caesar. Brutus’ ethos is weak because it does not really convince the plebeian that they should believe him. Brutus is just saying with no proof. Anthony is giving his first two line of speech now after Brutus finish his emotional speech and left. This quote is Antony’s ethos from his speech, “ Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him”(III.ii.82-83). Antony’s ethos is better than Brutus’ because he is using his position as a noble and saying the plebeians is his friend. This quote is showing that Antony is trying to get the plebeians attention, and going into the plebeians heart that he is the same as the plebeians. Brutus is giving his speech and this is his logos, “Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead and live all freemen”(III.ii.24-26)? Brutus is saying he killed Caesar for the plebeians so the plebeians will not have to live as slaves. Brutus’ logos is weak because his logos does not really have any proof that if Caesar is alive then the plebeians would be slaves, and if he is dead then the plebeians are all free. Brutus is asking in a question way what would the plebeians rather want, of course, they do not want to be slaves and want freedom but Brutus don 't have any proof that Caesar would make them slaves.
