Why Is Bob Ewell Good Or Bad

Improved Essays
Throughout the book there are many characters that have been known as bad or good and changed to good or bad, but there are also characters that stay the same throughout the whole book. An evil character in To Kill A Mockingbird would hands down be mr.Bob ewell. Most people in Maycomb would consider him trash and he also lives in the dumb. Not only do people think of him as trash but his respect for others is trash, for example he spat on Atticus face after the trial. On page 290,it says, mr.Bob Ewell stopped atticus on the post corner , spat in his face. Bob did because he didn't like how he was being treated witch wasn't bad. Mr. bob ewell has it out for atticus and his family, on page 351 Bob breaks Jem's arm because he was trying to attack the kids. There are some good …show more content…
On page 16, it says Miss Stephanie Crawford said she woke up in the middle of the night and saw him looking straight through the window at her. Boo radley at the end of the book is a good guy because on page 362, Scout was in Jem's room after the attack and they were trying to figure out who saved them and scout says “ hey, boo” . Boo would be creepy but if it wasn't for him Bob ewell may have hurt them a lot worse. Throughout the whole book there was one character that I thought that was always good and that was Atticus. I thought this because he always tried to do what's right and he hoped he could teach someone a lesson on page 119, atticus tell jem that “ I would rather you shot at a tin cans in the backyard but i know you will go after the birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want just remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.” atticus was also willing to defend a colored man in a trial even though he knew he would lose he knew it was right so that's what he did. In To kill A Mockingbird, I believe that these 3 characters have shown good ( atticus) transitioning ( boo radley), and the plain bad ( Bob

In the story, one concept that parallels the theme was the good and evil that coexists amongst humans. During Tom Robinson’s trial, Jem and Scout both see the court case and witness Tom’s wrongful conviction of rape. Tom Robinson was a good-hearted and innocent man, but the evil prejudice and hatred inside of Bob Ewell makes Tom become wrongfully convicted. This leads to Tom’s panicking and he later attempts to escape from authorities and he gets shot and killed. In a similar way, Boo Radley, despite what the local rumors say, is a good person that did not want to cause harm.…

One importing quote in the story that helps this thought is at the end of the trial, even though he lost the blacks in the back of the court stand up to respect him for what he did. Another prominent about Atticus is his big play in the father figure for Jem & Scout. This may sound insignificant as a hero thing However, with Jem & Scout not having mother/mother figure( excluding Cal)this can put a strain on both kids but Atticus is very responsible in taking care of the kids. One quote is when Atticus rushes home to save the town and kids from the mad dog which must have looked cool in Jem and scouts eyes.…

And for all of his treatment of Jem and Scout, he recognizes that they are still children and will act like children. He has Scout and her brother call him Atticus instead of Father to make it seem like they are peers. Atticus believes in what is right, even if it is not what is popular. He is faced with a very stressful case in which he has to defend an African-American man accused of raping a white girl. He knows this man is innocent and defends him because of it, not because he's black.…

People believed he was a bad man because he shot at the kids for peeking in his window, but he does not intend to do any harm, he just wants everyone to respect his privacy. To start, Boo Radley was a good guy. When Jem ripped his pants on the fence, Boo found them and stitched them back up for him. When Ms Maudie's house burnt down, he was secretly there and he gave Scout a warm blanket to keep her out of the cold. Later in the story when Scout and Jem were getting shot at, he was there.…

Bob Ewell threatens to get Atticus if it the last thing he does. The book says, "This morning Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he'd get him if it took the rest of his life." Mr. Ewell was furious with Atticus and wanted to kill him because of the outcome of the trial. Atticus expects his children to stand up for what they believe in, and he does the same himself. He does not feel that he can tell them one thing and do another. Finally, Atticus is always guiding Jem and Scout with advice so that they will become more compassionate people. Atticus sets a good example for the children when Mr. Ewell confronts him. Even though he is provoked and insulted, Atticus simply has a “peaceful reaction”.…

Atticus was a whole different person before “‘. . . Atticus Finch was the deadest shot in Maycomb County in his time’” (Lee 112). When Miss Maudie tells Scout and Jem that Atticus used to be the best shot, neither of them could believe it. Their father, probably the most level headed and humble person they ever met had hidden part of his past “Nevertheless, he refuses to use his background as an excuse to hold himself above others and instead is a model of tolerance and understanding” (“To Kill a Mockingbird”).…

Boo Radley is not a bad man, he only seems weird and scary because the people of Maycomb want kids to have anxiety when passing his house. The adventurous Scout Finch, and her family have been known to not fear anything, but fear itself, they know people are afraid, and people being afraid, causes more harm than wellness. The main idea of the book is that the strongest characters of the book try to be afraid of nothing but fear itself. Being…

Throughout the first couple of chapters, the reader was lead to believe that Boo Radley looked and behaved like a monster. With the new revelations about who he is, I am even more curious to find out what Boo Radley truly looks like and to find out more about his background. So far, this character has been developed well and in such a way that has really sparked my interest in the book. When Scout said that she heard laughter coming from the Radley place, I became even more intrigued in the story. It made me wonder why she heard laughter coming from what was previously thought of as a scary, gloomy place.…

This displays dignity and humour in his character. Starting with the main antagonist of the story, Bob Ewell. In practically every situation he is shown as evil, but there is one quote, by Atticus, about why Bob is being rude. “‘Jem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell’s shoes a minute. To Kill a Mockingbird Argumentative Essay In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the Finch family (more so directed towards Atticus, Jem and Scout) are treated with disrespect because Atticus had decided to defend a negro. In that age and time defending a negro was an automatic defeat due to the racism and violence. So why would Atticus put his family through a harsh time by taking a case so he would just to lose? Because Atticus has a unique look on the world, to set a role model for his children.…
