Bilbo Baggins Banned The all timed love of the classic "The Hobbit" has been put on the banned books list. Now having read the book I do not believe that it should have been placed on that kind of title. It is a wonderful book, with many exciting moments and suspense at its finest. However, there are some instances that I can see why it is banned. After doing some research, I came to a conclusion that it is banned for its religious purposes, smoking, and use of older languages. Religion is a big part of everything we do. Wars, borders, friends, family, and what we read usually have something to do with religion. In the small town of Alamogordo, New Mexico, we see a book burning taking place outside the christian community church, with "The Hobbit" at the center of it all. The books were claimed as "Satanic and promoting the use of which craft." However, the irony of it all is that J.R.R. Tolkien was in fact a catholic, and a devoted one at that.
