Persuasive Essay: Should Animals Be Tested?

Superior Essays
All over the world animals are being tested on products such as Febreze without even knowing it. Animal testings are used for many studies. The human organ system, and the body structure is similar to that of animals. Researchers study animals to understand how the human body processes different drugs and chemicals such as that of the animal. Animals help with the study of several illnesses such as cancer, and heart diseases. Many companies test on animals, some of these companies include Clorox, and Febreze. There are many animals such as rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and monkeys in labs that get experimented on. Experimenting on animals is wrong, and should be stopped because they feel pain when being experimented on, human beings and animals …show more content…
Animals are experimented on products such as pesticides, clorox, dish soap, drugs, and by the departments of transportation even chemicals for transports are tested on them. They are kept in cages where they are treated, and fed, so that then they are able to get tested on, while animals are healthy it can give more accurate to scientists. Animals want to be free, but in these cages they suffer. When animals are kept for a large amount of time in cages, they tend to become stressed, and start biting on their own flesh, and they pull out their own fur do to side effects of the experimentation, or experiences they might have had while getting experimented on, and waiting in cages. Once scientists have conducted their experiments, and then they are killed. Animals should get released back into the wild if the results were harmless, and if they would not affect anyone else, or another living creature. The cosmetics that are being experimented on the animal can be deadly, and the animals will suffer, and end up dying. No animal should ever face being genetically engineered to develop cancer, as mice are; being intentionally paralysed from brain damage, as monkeys are; or being force-fed pesticides and other chemicals, as dogs are. (Curie 2012) Damage is being done to animals, and these cancer cells are being engineered, so that they are experimented on …show more content…
With theses methods the results are able to have a better accuracy. While using animals as experimentations to be tested on a products that was created for human needs specifically, they are testing different types of species. Computers, human tissue, and cell structures have more accuracy, and focus on the “clinical and epidemiological” study showing how they work as a human disease develops in a body. These new developments also help with the testings of cosmetics, or products that are being created. Some people might say that testing on humans is not an option, so they test on animals instead, however research shows that before a product is released for sale it is tested on a human. There are micro brains that scientists have developed that can also be used for the purpose to retrieve results. “The organs have potential to help model neural problems in their earliest form to test the safety of drugs” (Verger 2013). The micro brains are used to test on drugs meaning it’s another way to test if certain drugs are safe, they test drugs such as tobacco, and vaccines on animals which can be prevented if they use micro brains more often. Human tissue, once developed and integrated, researchers can use these models to predict whether a candidate drug, vaccine or biologic agent is safe or toxic in humans in a faster and more cost-effective way than current methods.

The LD50 test and the Drazie test is cruel and inhumane. These tests are extremely painful to the animal and death is the final result. There are different alternatives to animal testing, but still continue to use animals as test subjects. Some of the alternatives are computer modeling, and in-vitro testing. On the other hand, animal testing can help save lives and find different cures for humans.…

We can use animals in human research because animals and humans have many similarities in their anatomy and physiology (cite). Although at the moment animal testing is necessary in scientific and medical research, it could be abolished in the future with the development of new alternatives. The development of in vitro and in silico methods has opened up new opportunities to abolish animal testing. A wide array of animals re used as surrogates…

Animal experimentation remains serious problems in our society. In our society, animals are treated differently. Some people treat animals as pets and others use them for developing technology. In recent years, animals are used in order to make sure that products are safe enough to be used for humans. Also new effective medical treatments have been effectively developed because of animal experiments.…

Since drugs are tested on animals, scientists and pharmacists can insure that these drugs are safe for testing on humans, and then giving it to patients (Fellenze, 2005). However, people are split into two parties for this particular issue, and one party supports using animals, but the other party against using animals in any way, yet using animals is important for humans, but there should be restricted regulations to use them. Animal…

Oliveira 1 Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial testing because animal testing is cruel and inhumane, alternate testing methods are available, and because humans and animals are every different from each other making animals very poor test subjects. Research on living animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC (Animal Testing Pro & Con). Scientist use animals for many different purposes. Animals are used to test the effectiveness and safety of new drugs before those drugs are given to people to treat illness and disease. Animals can also be used as test subjects for products like lipstick, eyeshadow, contact lens solution, and shampoo (Hayhurst, 26).…

When animals are summoned to these deadly experiments they are put under excruciating pain. Laboratories use many animals as guinea pigs for human experimentation when there are structural differences and some behavioral differences between humans and animals. Goodall says, "They have been using animals and not one experiment has benefited human beings. If we don 't preserve them they will certainly disappear from the planet," (Stop Using Animals) Humans have the ability to analyze, strategize, and reason with others. It is hard to receive a helpful and sufficient result when species differ in ways.…

I plan to answer questions such as: what toxicity tests are, why are these tests done, how harmful are they to animals, are the results from these valid, the cost of toxicity tests, and if alternative methods are better to use than animals. These questions will help me with my research on animal testing. Animal testing is used all around the world for research. The animals that are tested are rats, mice, chimpanzees, dogs, and cats. Testing on animals has become a societal norm.…

The AMA writes that “animals also are employed to determine the safety and efficacy of new drugs or the toxicity of chemicals to which humans or animals may be exposed,” (680). Without animals there are harder ways to determine the safety of a product and efficacy of a drug being used on humans. Which can cause a person’s life for not being treated with the right medication or cause horrible side effects from the toxic drug. This is one of the most persuasive points made by the American Medical Association, for showing the importance of animal research with…

Although people may argue that animal experimentation is justified because it could lead to a cure or some medication that helps a particular sickness, it still is not a good enough reason to test on animals. Scientists have developed alternatives to animal testing. One way scientists can test their drugs and medication is by using living embryonic cells, in vitro cell testing rather than animals or humans. Stem cells are derived from human embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized and then donated for research purpose with informed consent of the donors. Rather than testing drugs in animals, human stem cells are used to test the safety of drugs.…

Advanced computer systems, mathematical models (yourgenome.org, 2015) as well as tests using human tissues and cells can be used to test new treatments and drugs (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 2016). These methods, as well as the use of human volunteers, will allow tests to be more cost-effective, environmentally friendly and efficient (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 2016) (New England Anti-Vivisection Society, 2016). Animal tests are also generally inapplicable to humans (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 2016) due to variation in anatomy and biochemistry between species (New England Anti-Vivisection Society, 2016). Another argument against animal testing is that the experiments performed on the animals are generally cruel and the animals are often killed after the experiment (yourgenome.org, 2015). This poses the question whether or not is in unethical to use animals as test subjects; even if the experiments lead to important scientific…
