Most of the time the test subjects are harmed in some way. Subjects often come down with some down sort of sickness or rash. There are many instances where the test subject has been killed. One instance is where Harvard Medical School violated the laws and guidelines by accidentally killing a “non-human primate by keeping the animal in a cage that had just been cleaned with a cage washing machine”(Hunnicutt 1). This has happened at many other schools such as Princeton University and Weill Medical College of Cornell University. The AWA Is the law that protects these animals from being mistreated. The test subjects often develop deep depression and in turn leads to a decline in life expectancy. Because non-human primates are so similar to humans, testing facilities often use them for testing. Due to the similar characteristics between humans and primates, primates often suffer from the “same mental ailments that humans do”(Bekoff 1). Often times the test subjects are malnourished and become prone to infection and disease (Bekoff 1). The malnourishment runs down the immune system and sickness spreads throughout the body of the test subject and therefore shortens the lifespan of the animal. The test facilities are the main contributor to the shortened life span of animals being
