Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

Animal testing is the human act of using lively, conscious animals to test products, not caring what the aftermath may be. According to peta.org, more than 100 million animals are slaughtered in U.S. laboratories. Those that have the heart to inflict this type of brutality do this immobilizing them in restraint devices for hours, drilling holes into their skulls having their spinal cords crushed. (peta.org). Other than the physical atrocities that humans are forcing vulnerable animals into, they are also isolated from their own kind, confined to barren cages, and therefore, become severely traumatized. As humans that are compassionate, we strive to do what is right verses what is wrong. Killing innocent animals for sake of beauty products such as lipstick, eyeliner or perfume is an unthinkable action. The website animal-test.procon.org shares how animals are being treated in the Draize Acute Toxicity test. The supposed reason for this experiment is to see if there is irritation caused by shampoos or other cosmetic products. The test involves “…scientists use clips to hold a rabbits’ eyelid open for multiple days, so they cannot blink when products are being tested” (animal-test.procon.org). This barbaric process results in hemorrhaging and blindness. Even more shocking is that if an animal does endure test, they are subject to that treatment again; if they do not recover, then they are killed.
