Why Is Animal Testing Unnecessary

Improved Essays
Animal testing has brought us many results as to how safe a product is to use. However, is it really the best way to go when it comes to product testing? Animal testing can not only be harmful to the animals, but can also be unnecessary. Though humans and other animals have things in common, we also have many differences. Therefore, animal testing is cruel and harmful, unnecessary, and not justified.

Animal testing is not only harmful to the animals, but cruel. In the article Results from Research on Animals Are Not Valid When Applied to Humans, it says, “animals in laboratories are frequently treated as objects that can be manipulated at will, with little value for their lives beyond the cost of purchase.” this shows that the animals that are being tested are treated with disrespect, and are not properly cared for. Another reason that it is cruel is that “In most cases, researchers attempt to minimize the pain and distress experienced by animals in laboratories, but suffering is nonetheless inherent as animals are held in sterile, isolated cages, forced to suffer disease and injury, or euthanised at the end of the study.” as stated in the same

In Results from Research on Animals Are Not Results Valid when Applied to Humans, it says, “...Subtle differences between humans and animals in terms of our physiology, anatomy, and metabolism make it difficult to apply data derived from animal studies to human conditions.” This means that since humans are different from other animals, effects that animals have from tests can be completely different then the effects that humans have. Animal testing is sometimes accepted simply because people believe it is in necessary to improve human health. In Medical Testing on Animals Is Cruel and Unnecessary, it states “The reality is that the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that

For most people there are two scenarios that come to mind when they hear animal testing. The first scenario is that scientist are torturing, neglecting and abusing the animals that are being tested on. The other scenario is that scientist are being ethical, take care of the animals and are creating life-saving medicines. This makes the use of animals in experiments a controversial topic; a topic that isn’t quite black and white when argued. There are different types of animal testing like, medical testing and cosmetic testing; one is more ethical than the other.…

It is necessary to point out that humans and animals have significant biological similarities which make it possible for the scientists to predict human's reaction to certain chemicals, cosmetics, and medicine . There are three major areas of animal testing including biomedical research, animals test using, and the cost of animal testing The first major area of animal testing is biomedical research. Animal testing is that during the process of biomedical research animals are kept in captivity or can even be killed.…

People, especially scientists, are hurting innocent animals that did no harm to anyone. Animal testing shouldn't be allowed to happen because animals are getting hurt, they are not protected, and animals get mistreated. One reason that animal testing shouldn’t be allowed is because animals are getting hurt. For instance, the Draize eye test involves rabbits having their eyelids clipped open for as long as multiple days so that they don’t blink the product being tested away. Popular cosmetic brands like L'oreal, Lancome, Estee Lauder, and S.C. Johnson are used on animals.…

Though I believe animal testing is cruel and unethical, it is currently the single most accurate option. Inarguably, scientific research has led to countless breakthroughs and saved millions of lives. Ultimately, the harsh treatments endured by animals is highly wrong, but this research still remains vital for treating and curing diseases. Animal testing plays a crucial role in sustaining the human race and without it, many of us would not be alive today.…

A lot of people believe that because many scientific breakthroughs require animal testing but what they don’t understand is that just because they used animal testing doesn’t mean the breakthrough came from the testing. Many times breakthroughs use animal testing but don’t actually use any of the information they got from the testing due to the fact it can be inconclusive to use animals and assume that humans will react the same way. Also you can say that animals are better test subjects due to their short life span but the animals that do have short life spans don’t prove to be genetically similar to us at all including lab rats and other kind of…

Animal testing is no longer effective in today’s society. Testing has no purpose, it has been said many a time that it is useless and unnecessary. There is a higher chance of flipping a coin and being accurate in a test than actually doing the research and testing on animals. To see if a new product is safe it goes through a whole process where animals are being mistreated for the benefits of humans. Animals in experiments today are bred for the sole purpose of the particular experiment, so once the experiment ends, the animals have no value, and end up getting euthanized, because they are useless to scientists.…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…
