Why Is Animal Testing Unnecessary

“Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories,” (“Experiments”). Animal experimentation is extremely wrong and be put to an end. Countless innocent animals get put through numerous tests as if they do not have feelings or emotions. Animal testing has been going on far too long, and is not helping in the way it should. Most animal experimentation is still continuing for the reason of tradition. Some researchers truly think that animal testing is the best way to find cures. Government spending is being wasted on research that does not work more than half of the time. Animal testing has a negative impact on society due to its harmful consequences. “To induce Parkinson’s disease, monkeys, rats or mice are injected with a neurotoxin that destroys brain cells,” (“Why Animal Experiments”). During genetic manipulation, many animals die or suffer from abnormalities or other conditions. Stress is a big part of the suffering that these animals go through. They are unable to be normal animals. (Yashiki). They sometimes develop what is called “stress-induced psychosis,” this causes the animals to scream and have tantrums. They are literally scared for their lives. There is a law that is supposed to protect these creatures from being treated horribly, but sometimes researchers get away with treating them wrongly. Testing is causing animals to develop neurotic behavior. Some animals are forced to inhale toxic fumes. (“Harm and Suffering”). The poor animals are treated as objects and disposable. (Guillermo). Often times these tests are not even used to help cure disorders or advance medicine. A research
