Banned Animal Farm. Animal Farm has been banned in loads of countries for the same reasons and sometimes it’s a different reason. Why have they been banned? Why have countries like North Korea, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and the United Arab Emirates banned this book about animals who revolt against the farmers, but fall into a corrupt leadership. Why ban a book that is read by children in the U.S.A and others? A book can be harmless on the outside, but can be dangerous on the inside. Animal Farm has been banned in many countries such as North Korea, which is understandable in this case because Animal Farm depicts a corrupt leader/dictator, Napoleon, and would not like the people to wake up and realize that Napoleon and their leader, Kim Jong Un, are very similar. I say it’s an outlier because it is the one country on this list that doesn’t care about the book’s message, or about it’s oppressive leaders, they are not trying to censor the material because they are afraid that the people would revolt. The United Arab Emirates has banned Animal Farm because the book goes goes against their religion. What I mean is that the animal characters do not follow Muslim beliefs as in they talk, farm, do human things which is against islamic code . Mainly it is because of the pigs. Pigs are a dirty breed of animals, or they are impure in their eyes. They feel if they eat pork they will get allergies, diseases in the stomach and get tapeworms. They feel like this because pigs roll in mud, eat slop and are just plain dirty. This is the only country on this list I feel is justified in banning Animal Farm because it goes against their religion, depicting an impure animal and giving it characteristics and enjoying human foods. Pigs in the book speak, drink booze, walk on two legs, and make trades with humans which is unacceptable in Muslim beliefs.
