Why Is America Important To Me

America, as a country, has come a long way since it’s founding in 1776. Not only have we had astounding technological and medical advancements, we also have freedom, equality, and justice. These three points, which may not seem like much, is actually the groundwork for our entire country. Living in the United States is a privilege. By having the ability to choose our friends, our religion, and our education, we have chances that other countries do not. My vision is for future generations to be able to see the privilege it is to live in America. All my life my dad has put quotes in my life; some are good, some are annoying, all are useful. One of his favorites is a quote by Jim Rohn, “You are the average of your five closest friends.” Believe it or not this quote was my least favorite. At the time it seemed unimportant and I tuned him out. As I got older I realized this quote is logical, it relates to the law of averages, which states that the result of any situation is the average of the outcomes. Our lives are greatly influenced by those closest to us and by spending time with exceptional people we ourselves become exceptional. It is easy sometimes to overlook the aspects of our lives that could make a difference to others. As a nation, we are falling behind in the aspect of kindness. As a student, I see others drop their school work in the hallway on a daily basis, sadly there are not many who will stoop down and help pick it up. I want to be the one to change this. Our country was built on the grounds of freedom, but America is only free because of the brave, without these brave, kind people America will slowly decrease from its rank as a world power.
