A dictatorship is a government run by a ruler who has been able to balance nationalism, charm, and fear into one. The ruler will have created a state where the population has become a mix of people who praise their leader during the day but lay awake at night for fear of what their oppressor would do to them. Hitler was a powerful and spellbinding speaker who was able to attract a wide following of Germans desperate for change. He would promise the disenchanted a more suitable living. One where their families could grow up proud in a new and glorious Germany. The Nazi Party was especially favorable to the unemployed, young people, and members of the lower middle class (small business owners, office employees, and farmers). Adolf Hitler came into power because he was able to take advantage of the state of Germany after WWI to create a nationalistic unification of the people under him tainted with his views. His ability to manipulate people with his public speaking and follow him is part of his rise to power. His dictatorship affected the entire world as sooner or later, countries declared war on The Third Reich. Countries that felt the immediate brutality and ruthlessness of Hitler’s regime included Austria, Belgium, France, and Great Britain. These countries responded by declaring war on The Third Reich. Those responses were costly but effective as Hitler fell in the end.
