Why Is Abortion Morally Wrong

Every year in the United States 1.2 million abortion procedures are performed. That means each day 3,287 fetuses are aborted, and every hour 137 are murdered (Operation Rescue). In the amount of time it takes to read this essay about five to six innocent lives will be taken due to this horrible act. Abortion is a medical process that terminates a pregnancy due to the death of the fetus intentionally. Considering the ethics and beliefs of many people, murder is morally wrong and results in a consequence, therefore the killing of unborn fetuses is morally wrong too because it is a form of murder, and for that reason abortion must be outlawed.

One type of procedure is the manual vacuum, this is completed early on in the pregnancy where an elongated, thin tube is inserted into the uterus while a large needle is attached to the tube and the fetus is suctioned out. The most common procedure is the suction curettage. Due to the fetus being larger the mother must go under anesthesia and then the doctor stretches open the cervix using metal rods and then inserts a hard plastic tube that connects to a suction machine into the uterus, the suction pulls the body apart and out of the uterus, and then a knife must be used to scrape the rest of the fetal parts out (Spitz). An additional procedure is the dilation and evacuation. This is performed during the second trimester of pregnancy. At this point in the pregnancy the fetus is too big to be broken up by suction. So in this type of procedure, the cervix is stretched open and the fetus’ skull is crushed to make the removal of the fetus easier and the doctor then pulls out the fetal parts (Care Net Pregnancy).
