Should Abortion Be Legal Or Illegal Essay

One of the biggest issues concerning Americans today is the debate over whether or not abortion should be legal or illegal. For over more than thirty years Americans have been divided over the issue of abortion. Many Americans believe it to be immoral and some even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion according to dictionary.com is “the removal of and embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” Proponents say that choosing abortion is a woman’s right and should not be limited by governmental or religious authority. While opponents believe that life begins at conception and aborting the embryo is the immoral killing of an innocent child. Abortion has been around since way before the eighteen - hundreds. I would go on to say an also if the woman was raped she should be given the option to choose. Then I also remember saying abortion should be illegal if a woman uses no form of contraception and uses abortion as birth control. Then realized I was kind of straddling the fence not wanting to say the wrong thing because you truly never know what is going on why women may need abortions. They may have been too young to take care of the child properly, or having a child may have hindered something’s they may have going for them. I believed a woman should be able to get an abortion and not have to deal with discrimination from others after doing so. I did believe abortion was horrible but I believed everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the topic as well. That is why I believe that I am pro – choice. Being pro – choice to me means that people should have the authority to make decisions for themselves, like freedom, a right of the United States of America. I think people should be responsible for their own actions and what they do to themselves. If they have an abortion it is nobody’s business but their own. Now that I have had the chance to research and view this topic from both sides I really can state I am pro- choice for abortion. Everyone is entitled to their own options about what they

The pro-life parties believe that abortion should be illegal, generally for these reasons; the moral right to life of a person begins at conception, induced abortions are an unjust killing which violate the fetus’s right to life, and that the law should not allow such unjust violations to life. The pro-choice parties argue that; women should have the right to control what happens inside and to their own body, abortion is simply an exercise of this right, and that the law should not be able to bring criminal charges to someone who has the right to control what happens to their body. Now I would like to take a deeper look into the philosophical view on the argument of why abortion is immoral and wrong. Anti-abortion supporters claim that it is a very simple concept of why abortion is immoral. For example, Don Marquis, an anti-abortion supporter states, “It is…

The Pro-Choice argument is that that women have rights over their own body and have the right to choose what they wish to do with their body. The Pro-Life argument that women do not deserve to have those rights which means they would be forced to go on with an unwanted pregnancy. Many people believe abortion is wrong because it is taking away a life, however abortion performed at an early stage in a pregnancy is not taking away a life. Therefore, abortion should be legalized throughout all states in the U.S., as women should have rights over their own body. Abortion history goes as far back as the 1800’s.…

I also hear that if a woman wants to have intercourse and does not want to get pregnant, than she should be using some type of birth control. I will argue why these statements are not true whatsoever. Most people believe that all people should accept the consequences to their actions, and that is something I believe as well. This is probably why pro-lifers argue that abortion is wrong because the women chose to have sex and now she needs to be willing to accept that child that she is now pregnant with, or the “consequence” of her actions. Often enough, though, a woman ends up pregnant even when she has taken necessary steps to not get pregnant, such as using contraceptives.…

“Murder is the “unlawful killing of a human being” with some level of intent.”(source 6) People are right about abortion being murder. But what they don’t know is that the baby in the womb isn’t actually considered alive until 16-17 weeks in the womb so if the woman was to have the abortion within the 16 to 17 weeks then it really wouldn’t be considered murder and besides the woman should be able to choose if she wants an abortion because she may have health problems or she just wouldn’t be able to take care of the child. People say that abortion should be illegal because you’re murdering a human being which could be true at some point but again some people don’t know that the baby isn’t fully alive until 16-17 weeks. For example “This is why abortion must be illegal if murder is illegal. It should never be “lawful” to kill any innocent human being.” In this quote they are saying that it should never be lawful to kill an innocent human being but these people don’t know what situation the woman could be in and why she needs the abortion.…

Abortion can make someone’s life or break someone’s life. This is something that in my opinion is a very misinterpreted thing in such a way which is very wrong. I say this because people think that it’s the right thing to do if they know that they won’t be able to take care of the child. A lot of woman who experience unintended pregnancy undergo abortions also. Hospitals around America stopped providing the choice for a woman to have an abortion.…
