Pregnancy and birth after rape
Being pregnant is a blessing for almost all woman, but what happens if a woman results pregnant after being raped. This is a polemic and at the same time very sensitive topic. “About 32,000 pregnancies result from sexual assaults or rape every year in the United States.” (HRF) The fact that a person is raped it’s catastrophic, but when the victim results pregnant after such a traumatic event is horrible. What is abortion? “An abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It uses medicine or surgery to remove the embryo or fetus and placenta from the uterus.” (MedlinePlus). Having in mind that after being raped, these women might feel dirty and unwanted, it takes time for her to recover her normal life. It is going to be very difficult for her to build confidence in a new relationship, and now she also must take an important decision, whether to kill and innocent or to just get a fetus product of a monster out of her body and her life. “Abortion figured as a healing modality, serving to heal a woman of her injury.” (Bridges) Let’s think of the utilitarianism as means justify the ends, the fact that the pregnancy is unwanted and product of a catastrophic event like rape justify the fact that an abort is harmful to the baby and for the mother’s body cannot be …show more content…
