Why Intro Psych Is A Tough Course

Some students believe that when they take Into to Psych, it’ll be a breeze. Many students don’t know the extent to the course or just how much they are getting ready to learn. Without good study habits, it would be difficult to take this course since it requires a lot of studying and cramming information into the brain. After reading the article “Why Intro Psych is a tough course”, I began to analyze my current study habits and from the article gained new insights on ways to succeed in this course. My current study habits at the moment aren’t the greatest. At times I only study an hour for each of the four classes I take and sometimes I study with my kids which causes me not to focus as much as I should. My biggest issues when studying is trying to learn every bold vocabulary word because I feel like that’s going to teach me all about the material when I should be focusing on the material I’m learning. Some of the suggestions stated in the article helped me think of ways to improve my current study habits. One of the suggestions given was to learn the …show more content…
I have started to find time to study in silence because I want to work at succeeding in my goal of getting good grades in my classes. Finding time to study in a quiet environment ensures that I’m giving my all to my classwork. Another new study habit I’ve adapted is to read over the material I’m already familiar with and put more time into learning the material I struggle to learn. My favorite suggestion and new study habit from the article was to use the “Velcro theory”. The Velcro theory is when you “hook” what you’re learning to something you already know. Allowing myself to hook what I’m learning to things I already know, let’s me learn it in my own way and will eventually make connections to other things I’ll learn. Overall, the article provided was a good read and gave me new ideas and insights to making my study habits
