If you went to a restaurant and sat in a seat, would you want to know if someone had thrown up in the seat that you were sitting in? Would you rather be told something that could possibly hurt you, or never know about it and stay safe? I believe that ignorance is not bliss because ignorance leads to a single perspective, knowledge can save people's lives, and something that is not known can hurt a person.
One thing that ignorance gives rise to is a single perspective. When people do not have the knowledge of the other cultures in the world, then they become ignorant. Upon arriving, the reporters stated, “...This one is surrounded by suicide nets, they’re everywhere.” This negates the claim of ignorance is bliss because the company was aware that workers were jumping off the factory windows to commit suicide, so they installed the suicide nets to stop that. If the company did not have knowledge of this, then they would have lost many more workers. The New York Times article called “Anne Frank Is a Syrian Girl” highlighted the idea that ignorance is not bliss. Nicholas Kristof of New York Times wrote, “President Obama’s reluctance to do more to try to end the slaughter in Syria casts a shadow on his legacy.” If people have knowledge about what is happening in Syria, then they could do something to help. It could be as simple as voting for a president that will help the Syrian refugees, or as crucial as donating money to charities that are trying to help the struggling …show more content…

In the YouTube video about the Mcdonald's pink slime, the anchor generalizes that “where there is a supermarket, there are healthy options. It's a matter of education.” This means that people have the opportunity to get healthier options, but it is a matter of knowing what these healthier options are. The people have no knowledge about the pink slime that is going into their burgers, or how unhealthy this fast food really is. This lack of knowledge will lead to high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes, which all shorten a person's lifespan exponentially. This indicates that ignorance is not bliss because what the people did not know did in fact hurt them. In the article about “Sex Trafficking,” it emphasized that “[the ages of victims] have been dropping drastically. The average starting age of prostitution is now 13.” The purpose of the article was to inform parents of young children that their child could be at risk. If parents did not have knowledge about this topic, then they would not be able to protect their children from the dangers of sex trafficking. This supports the claim that ignorance is not bliss because what the parents and young children were not aware of, could have ended up hurting
