Why I Write Writing skills are essential to many professions. Writing a proper resume is critical to securing a job, and the ability to write good and coherent emails to coworkers is part of keeping it. I am a mechanical engineering major; in all likelihood, writing will not be a vital aspect of a job. However, this does not mean that it is unimportant, writing skills will still be useful in college, and to a lesser degree at a future job. The writing skills developed in College Writing I and II will be useful to passing WAC courses such as History of Civilization I, which I will be taking in the fall. Another writing skill that has improved my writing is remembering the audience, or, making sure that the essay would make sense to a random person who knows nothing about the topic it addresses. I also intend to intern at one of the research labs at the University. If I stay on this path, writing skills will be very useful to writing publishable research papers. Journals may reject papers that are not structured in a logical and understandable way. This is a skill that I learned in College Writing I and was able to practice and improve in College Writing II. Persuasive essays have a general structure that a student must learn to follow. One of the big improvements in my writing since taking both courses was that I was better able to connect my thesis statement to the following paragraphs and choose better more relevant citations to support …show more content…
Through peer review, I was able to learn from the mistakes of others and receive constructive criticism for mistakes or inconsistencies I may not have spotted myself. Mistakes of this kind are usually points in the essay where something needs to be explained or analyzed more thoroughly. The peer review process could have been more useful if I had written longer rough drafts. Most of the time, rough drafts consisted of the introduction paragraph only. One of the reasons for this was that I did not want to rewrite half of an essay if I chose to change the focus of the essay. However, it would have improved the quality of my writing overall if I had received constructive criticism on a body, counterargument, and conclusion paragraphs. This way, I could learn what mistakes I usually make in those parts of an essay and look out for

Based on My Essay 2 work, the comments or feedbacks help me to improve for the next essay which is the Research Paper. It helps me to build my essay into a great one compared to my two essays that I have been done in this course. I learned that I should not stick into one side. For example, in my Essay 2, I should have given pros and cons not just only one side because I mostly give pros and not cons. This is like where I need to balance the arguments between each side.…

Thinking deeply about the arbitrary and conventional nature of language and the importance and power of rhetorical strategy impacts my understanding of the writing act. It would help me to understand what I’m reading better. Also, it would be more clear to read the essay than the one without the rhetorical strategy. Rhetorical strategies are Logos, Pathos, Ethos and the essay will be based on one of the appeals. I would know if the essay is about logos it would be something based on logic so it would give me an idea of what to think about when I’m reading the essay.…

While peer editing, I have learned that everyone writes different and has his or her own styles and techniques. No two people have the same minds, so it makes sense that each writer is unique. When I correct other people’s papers, I learn from their mistakes. If I find something that needs to be corrected, I occasionally realize that I am guilty of doing the same thing. Peer editing helps me break my bad habits and form better ones.…

After my completion of AP English junior year, I felt better than ever about my writing. Although it is okay to be confident in your skills, I entered this year with a sense of satisfaction and no desire to take my writing abilities to the next level. Due to this lack of ambition, I haphazardly threw my first week essay together and genuinely thought my teacher would be in awe over my skills- as I was only a senior entering a college course. When I received my grade, I was shocked to see that I had been placed into the scoring category of “weak”, and my teacher ultimately wasn’t so pleased after all. After some reflection, I reached the conclusion that my teacher was right- I deserved that five out of twenty.…

I carried the lesson learned from the first essay with me through the next two essays. I did see some improvement in my writing style with the Summary Analysis, however, I found myself backsliding with the Critical Essay. I see that there are still some areas that I need to work on. I am currently having some difficulty in sounding professional.…

Final Exam: Self Evaluation Essay I personally can say that I have seen an improvement in my writing since my initial evaluation in the middle of the semester. During my first evaluation I was very confused with many of the general concepts the class held and it reflected in my writing. Answering the questions presented in the midterm evaluation and reviewing my first writing assignment Meta commentary pushed me to try to grasp a better understanding of assignments and ask for more helpful feedback that would benefit me in developing writing especially in the concept of methods and organization.
