I was raised by two Christian parents, who deeply love the Lord. This was truly a blessing in my life, as I was exposed to the Bible and church at such a young age. One of the biggest ways that I have grown spiritually is through my personal devotion time. When I was younger, my dad would lead devotions with my siblings and me, but my parents stressed the importance of having a personal devotion time on my own when I got older. I never took their words too seriously, because I did not understand how much I needed God’s Word daily. Throughout high school, I thought I was an okay person, because I was not living a life that I deemed to be wild. In many ways I was ranking sins in my mind and I became prideful over my outward good works. During my junior year of high school, I started to feel convicted over the necessity to have a personal devotion time. When I started having personal devotion time, God used the truth of His Word to convict me of many sins I had been blind to. One of the sins I had been blind to was my sinful patterns of legalism. What this passage in Hebrews teaches me is that the race of life is going to be filled with sin, trials and temptation, but I can fix my eyes on Jesus and run to Him. The spiritual race of life is far greater than any physical race and the prize is far greater than any temporary reward on earth. As I continue to walk with Jesus, I am amazed that He never stops molding me and that He chooses to use someone like me.
