Why I Want To Vote

Decent Essays
I would not sell my vote even it were legal. The minimum I would charge for my ballot would be one million dollars, and if someone could afford it, they would certainly have enough money to buy a massive sum of votes from others. Hypothetically, one or two extra votes wouldn't help, but if my potential buyer could afford my prices, I wouldn't want him to have that much

The future of our nation and our democracy depends upon the next generation of electorates. In the ABC documentary An Uneducated Electorate Promotes Democracy's Demise by John Stossel, Richard Dreyfus discusses how uninformed, apathetic, and uninterested electorates will ultimately lead to the demise of the United States’ form of democracy. Moreover, the fault also lies in current cable shows that misinform the majority of impressionable and easily manipulated electorates. As the foundation of our government lies within the citizens, an incognizant electorate will jeopardize and threaten our democracy. Education plays a part in the foundation of democracy.…

Although approval ratings in Congress are consistently low, incumbents are continuously being re-elected at high rates. There are several reasons to explain why this phenomenon is taking place; this is taking place due to the lack of citizen knowledge in a democracy as well as the incumbent bias. Many Americans, lack basic citizen knowledge of democracy. Constituents make the conscious effort to not be informed in politics. When they are uninformed it’s hard to make a political decision, therefore they are left voting for someone they’ve heard about in the news.…

The Voice Of America in Chains Voting is a large part of what America is today. “Government of the people, by the people, for the people”. The voice of the people is what makes the big decisions in America and mostly through choosing who will represent us in our government in elections. This makes the vote valuable, because it has the power to make decisions and change outcomes. Although many will argue that Mandatory voting will provide a better representation of the Consensus, it will actually demote civic virtues and limit individual freedoms.…

The Constitution is particularly vague on the issue of voting. Article I, Section 4 of the Constitution left the establishment of voting practice procedures and who is eligible to vote up to the individual states. A provision was made for Congress to alter the voting process if necessary (Justia, 2015). As an unintended result, suffrage was initially limited to white, male property holders. The Fifteenth Amendment addresses the rights of citizens to vote in two sections.…

The right to vote is one of the most important, fundamental rights given to American citizens. Yet, rather than seeking to make more convenient and accessible for citizens interested in engaging in the political process, state governments focus rather often focus time and resources on restricting voting and making the process more complex and difficult. States governments have the authority to determine not only who is allowed to register to vote, but also how the process of voting itself operates. Some states require ID just to cast a vote, such as Mississippi, which placed new restrictions on voting in 2016 which require certain forms of photo ID. Other states, for example Nebraska and Florida, place restrictions on early voting by taking…

Introduction I voted for the first time in 2014, only a month after I had turned 18. I felt proud to be participating in our democracy and to be fulfilling my individual responsibility as a member of this country. However, I believe I only did so because I did not struggle with the hurdles that many others in Kansas face. The reason I am writing to you today is to address the impact these hurdles have on voter turnout and to propose a solution to this problem. As the Kansas Secretary of State, you are tasked with deciding the requirements that citizens must meet in order to vote in these elections.…

According to the article by Brian Palmer, a vote in the USA costs between $5-$175. If voting became mandatory, then it is going to be extremely expensive. Critics have justified the high cost of compulsory election by saying that politicians would lack the need of excessive funds. While this point is taken politicians will still have the incentive to be elected and will spend considerable amounts of funds. According to the article, Mandatory Voting Undermines Voting Rights, "it is safe to assume that not a lot of money will be saved.…

“We will never have true civilization until we have learned to recognize the rights of others”, American actor, Will Rogers, expressed his idea about society; but Americans in 1866 had a different mindset about equality. With the Civil War starting in 1860, a great division in the country was made visible: The Southern states were in favor of slavery, and the Northern states defended that slaves were human too. As a result, a terrible battle was unleashed, but at the end, liberty won. This didn’t mean slaves were immediately embraced into society, instead, they were treated poorly for the color of their skin.…
