Taking criminal justice

After attending Northeast Magnet High school for four years and getting the benefit to be in the law magnet as well as being in it for so long why not take the chance to explore my options and interest in law by taking intro to criminal justice. In high school I spent a lot of time busting my butt to get things done and I remember my freshman year through sophomore year I was having to work 2 times harder than other kids in all of my classes and because I had a lot going on and it became harder because I have a processing disorder and extreme dyslexia and it would cause me to have trouble processing things quick enough. Although, things got a little hard sometimes and life kicked me while I was down; I was always willing to get back up and brush myself off because I wanted to learn more, I had to learn more. Attending Northeast magnet gave me certain knowledge about a lot of things from law to life. Not only did it help me have better knowledge about the law

I was hesitant on what to expect coming to class only for the simple fact that I didn’t know what I was walking into. It was all so different at my high school and not the very best experience yet the education was amazing and all of my teachers were awesome. The entire time I was attending northeast I had been taking the law magnet all four years doing mock trials, and many debates. I’m now putting my plans into action by getting started this semester in my criminal justice class and I am hoping for the best considering my teacher is an ex-cop, and seems to be a very serious person when it comes to the law. During this course I’m hoping that my time will be put to good use and I will learn more than I initially thought I would. As far as the educational process I’m hoping my teacher will also surprise me and be the one to really bring me to the surface in this

The author of this research paper explores why knowledge of prior criminal history affects the health care standards in correctional facilities. The access to past criminal history of patients being treated in correctional facilities is said to be primarily responsible for the poor treatment they tend to receive when seeking medical attention as inmates. Despite efforts to separate an inmates’ criminal past from those responsible in providing medical care; criminal history of individuals is publicly accessible and difficult to restrict. Society as a whole tends to hold a bias toward specific types of crimes committed against their citizens, such as: rape, child molestation, and human trafficking. Individuals convicted of these types of crimes are often subject to bias when receiving medical treatment while incarcerated.…

Law and the Interest that it Holds on People Being able to study the law has always been an interest of mine because there are so many different directions that it can take. People defending a certain law can win but so can a person that is trying to change a tradition, and thus can change the whole way the system works and is looked at by U.S citizens and that includes the rest of the world. I like knowing that the U.S has the power to make laws in our own country and cause and effect somewhere else, which can benefit people from those places as to gain more rights than what they had before. Many of the cases that have been discussed in class, I had at one point hear or read about them. However, I had not been able to go into much detail…

I have always known that I wanted to serve in the justice system, but my interest in law school truly began in high school with experiences such as my involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a Big Sister, I learned that there are many children in the world that need an advocate to give them a voice within the system. My interest in a legal career was further piqued during my attendance at Sunflower Girls State where I was able to attend a real trial with the District Attorney and participate in mock trials. Experiences such as these both inspired and encouraged me to set my goals towards law school.…

*TRIGGER WARNING* [pun not intended] Cops and Guns: "In Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Britain, and Ireland, police officers generally do not carry firearms. In one of these countries, Iceland, it’s legal for citizens to carry guns—and roughly a third choose to do so." Why do cops need guns? You can 't tell me it 's because we have guns because Iceland manages themselves fine. Also, why is training so short, in Norway it takes 3 whole years to become a cop, some places in America are starting to require more time, running 1-2 years, but the majority just go through an academy with the average of 16 weeks.…

The course is mainly focused on education of the criminal justice, and it is an entry-level writing course that all college freshmen have to take, the scope of this course is to preparing freshmen for college level writings, logical comprehensive readings and research papers on their upcoming semesters at College, because high school is completely different than college. College expects all the freshmen proficiency in college level of writing and reading before they start to take 200 level college classes. In the class, I have been asked to read a lot of past unfair trials cases that actually happened in the United States, and the reading material usually covers the topics of racial…

In the beginning of the semester, I would admit I was nervous to start my internship with the Divisional Clerks office. Before these past few months, I had only set-foot in a courthouse once or twice in my life for past tickets. Ever since I was eight years old, I have always wanted to be a lawyer. Growing up I enjoyed watching the television show; Law and Order Special Victims Unit, with my grandfather every day after school. When we would sit and watch the show together, my grandfather would tell me all the time “You would make a great lawyer Joe.”…

“Police are the only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence” - Robert Peele. Law enforcement is a diversified, expanding career with a common goal: improving quality of life in local communities through the reduction of crime and protection of citizens. Adequate law enforcement is the backbone of a civilized, developed society with an established and progressive legal system. Since violations of the law will always be an unfortunate consequence of a developed society, police officers and other law enforcement personnel will always be needed to enforce these laws. While the core values and principles have remained the…

After my experience, I found that what we talk about in class seems to make more sense to me. My previously held speculation of television courtroom settings has been confirmed as a dramatized recreation, and I feel more comfortable now that I better understand how the legal system works. Another aspect of the experience I really enjoyed was being able to see components of law that we learned about in class within each case. Initially, I was not incredibly excited to dedicated a morning to observing court cases, but I ended up finding myself disappointed when the court adjourned for lunch. Now that I know what a typically courtroom setting really is like, I would not be surprised if I were to return to the courthouse, just to watch and continue to…

Criminal Psychology Introduction: Criminal psychology is the study of the intentions and behaviours of criminals. Criminologists apply psychology to crime in order for them to uncover the criminals reasoning for committing the crime. This is not a job that many people know about but I believe that it is a very important job so that the police and other agencies have information about what and who they are dealing with. I had a short limited amount of prior knowledge about this topic but from researching it further I have accumulated much more information and have created 3 key questions that I will be exploring. First I will be analysing the question How can criminal psychology help the criminal justice system and other agencies deal with…
