In Spain, where I grew up, women were not recognized or encouraged to continue their education or have a voice. Out of ignorance, my father and brothers crashed any impulse that I had as a young girl to let my opinions and my voice out; however, I found alternative ways to express myself through dance, paint and spiritual practices. Even though I am confident in my body and my artistic expression, I have not explored the capacities of my voice and opinions into a professional life so I am developing them through academic studies.…

Higher education institutes need to prepare students for the changing global economy, which requires them, having a mental map on both disciplinary and interdisciplinary studies. In the 21st century where the world is heavily dependent on globalization and an integrated economy, the discipline model of “one method of knowing” is extremely concerning because real world problems are not separated into disciplines but are rather challenging and complex. The simple answer to the question would be that moving towards interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies would “better prepare students for the future” (Education Week line 8) and be more effective.…

Draft 2 After re-reading my first draft several times in preparation for this, a realization struck me questioning what the heck I actually meant by my personal philosophy. Despite my bold statement of setting out on the path to break free from this preset pattern of life for us; for an individual to achieve the unattainable heights of success or notoriety, I cannot help but feel a slight cringe. In spite of the short duration between the previous draft and this, my philosophy to…
