First of all, I am choosing to stay because of the sickness of the men. So far, as of February 1st, there are 3,989 of my fellow soldiers are sick (Document A). Thomas Paine has inspired me. The words of his, “Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to tax) but ‘to bind us in all cases whatsoever, ’ an id being bound in that manner, is not slavery then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth.”- Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, December 23, 1776 (Document D). I want Independence from the tyranny of Britain and will fight until I die or achieve what I hope for. I am not a summer soldier and will not back down against any problem that comes my way.
With this in mind, I will not leave the Continental Army because, I’m suitable to keep going, I am not a summer soldier, and I want independence. From this, I will not leave and continue to fight for the Continental Army. The role that I play can make a difference in the war, and I hope the other soldiers will take my choice in mind and agree with my opinions.
