I have learned in both my academic and personal life that I thrive on intellectual challenges and debates. In high school, my favorite classes have been honors medical microbiology and government. The common factor in these classes was the rich culture of investigation and debate. The curriculum in these courses was less rigid than the typical advanced courses that focus on AP examination preparation and results in an environment of exploration and self-discovery. As students, we were able to interact with both our classmates and our professors in an energizing environment that deepened our interest and knowledge of the topic. This type of deliberation in microbiology resulted in thoughtful contemplation of extraordinary possibilities for the future in science. Specifically, our discussion of the role of genetic modification for the treatment of cancer and the …show more content…

My journey first began when I decided to attend The University of Iowa in the fall of 2013 after graduating from Urbandale High School. I attended Iowa for 2 years and then when it came time to choose where I would apply to nursing school at I was stuck between wanting to continue on at Iowa’s College of Nursing, pending on my acceptance, but also needing a change in my life. I decided to choose change and Mercy College of Health Sciences presented an opportunity for just that. There is a program offered at Mercy College of Health Sciences (MCOHS) that was too good for me to pass up. My current focus has been on achieving my BSN and the program I had heard about was fairly new but provided an opportunity for me to get my BSN while doing it in only 2 short years.…

At one point in most everyone's life they dream of making a difference in their community. They want to make it a better place. This is one of many dreams that I wish to accomplish. My hope is that by attending college and bettering myself, then the youth within the tribe will follow my lead and decide to do the same; whether it be going to college one day or to just be a better person in general.…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

In high school, I had an instructor that stood out as a professional hero. I took her for some health science classes. I believe that this instructor properly displayed sensitivity, ethical commitment, and ethical courage. She also was the advisor for our school’s local chapter of H.O.S.A, which stands for Health Occupation Students of America. The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.…

Every day, my generation is bombarded with the new statistics and burdens of college expenses. The cost of college is becoming an ever-looming weight, shared by almost all students. The Forty Acres Scholars Program would help relieve this burden, and allow me to focus my attention on changing the world (and not on how to pay my next student loan installment). For example, though I've listed my desire to develop earlier computer science exposure, I also have a secret obsession with space exploration. As our population continues booming (currently at a rate of 250 people per minute), it is painfully obvious that our Earth will be unable to sustain the human race.…

Scholarly research differs from others simply because it allows one to acquire knowledge through progression. Scholarly research is imperative to doctoral learners due to the fact we must be able to process information in way that is different from other types of research. In large part I think our cognitive skills are developed as result of the transition that occurs during the research process. I truly believe that we progress through each level of Bloom’s taxonomy: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis before we reach evaluation. Evaluation in my opinion helps us to develop our metacognitive skills so that we may discern or “make judgments about issues, resolving disparities or disagreements” that we may find…

When they look back on experiences and memories, there is that one special spot that sticks out.
