Education growing up was never my focus or top priority. However, after years of dead end jobs and feeling fatigued, my perspective changed. I gained a value and the moral merits to desire an education. With that desire in my mind and heart, I started the pursuit of earning my general education degree.
In June of 2015, I began my pursuit. I worked extremely hard towards earning my general education degree by studying online. My studying reflected a strong precision and a sedulous attention to detail. I studied with two websites that I found to be extremely beneficial. I used My Illinois G.E.D and Khan University.
Once I felt like I was ready to test, I implemented a plan. I utilized a game plan in hopes of ensuring my success. I chose to test in order of the subjects that I felt were the most strenuous and exhausting first. I settled on testing in the order of English, social studies, science, math, and lastly the constitution. With my game plan set, I paid the fee of one-hundred and twenty dollars and reserved my seat for the following Monday.

Why should a non-science major take biology, chemistry, and other physical sciences? Why is it essential that every college student study English composition? There are countless benefits to general education classes; however, many students are yet to acknowledge their importance. They put little effort into the required classes, blow off assignments, and are completely oblivious to the many skills they need in order to become well-rounded citizens. They would rather spend their time taking classes related to their major than “wasting” it in a general education course.…

The first time I felt the spark of desire to teach was when I was ten years old, and my class had to give a presentation on what we wanted to be when we grew up. I remember my teacher asking me after my presentation why I wanted to be an educator, and I simply shrugged and said I had a feeling it was something I should do. There was no rhyme or reason to why I had felt this need, only a simple thought towards my future that most children have. This thought stayed in the back of my mind for years to come, and whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be, I gave the same answer, “I want to be a teacher.” The only questions that remained and continued to go unanswered for years were what grade would I teach and what subject?…

I knew I wanted to further my education and expertise in educational technology during my first year of teaching 9th grade English. I began my teaching career later in life than most. I was 30 years old, and had spent the majority of my professional years working for banks and a small medical billing office. I regularly used technology in those careers, and constantly sought out new and innovative ways of improving the workflow for myself and colleagues in those companies. Any new app or program I heard about, I researched it, experimented with it, and if I saw a place for it in my work, I did everything I could to learn how to use it to improve the way I did my job.…
