In my small, Illinois town, Fall is the pinnacle point of the year. It is the time when farmers are working 18 hour workdays and the football players are praying for Friday night wins. My town houses an abundance of farmers and their work ethics literally trickle down into the community. My role model is my stepfather, also a farmer. This week I have only seen glimpses of him in the crowd at my football game because of his rigorous harvesting schedule, as he is at work before I wake up and after I go to bed. After a long work day, he would say “This is why you need to go to school and earn good grades so you don’t have to work hard all day like me.” This sentence stuck with me through the years and as it is time to continue my education, I …show more content…
One day, as I was flipping through the TV channels, I came upon Mad Money, a show based around the stock market. I was hooked. I played stock market simulation games on the internet and tracked stocks like they were my favorite sports team. Stocks served as a bridge for me to the world of business. My junior year I applied for an entrepreneurial class called CEO (Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities) through the vocational program my school is involved with. I am currently enrolled and it is like no other class I have ever been in. I have twenty, very driven, classmates from 8 different schools and everyday we have to dress business casual. We utilize local businesses as our classroom and the business owners are our teachers. The final project of the year is for each student to create a business. This involves creating a business plan, applying for a loan from the bank, and showcasing the business in front of multiple communities.
Aside from my Business class, my senior year is like a hour glass nearing the end. I have created many great memories in high school but have also learned a lot about myself through my academic work. The college and advanced placement courses I have taken throughout high school will serve as building blocks for success in my first years of college. I believe my greatest strength is my cordial personality, as I was awarded the Leadership Award through my school last

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

I found these teachings, particularly striking as I someday hope to own my own business of some sort because I want to be my own boss. The first lesson I learned about running your own business is that you need a great lawyer and accountant. After taking this course and others in this program, I have realized how large a role the lawyers and accountants play in the business world. In the first chapter we read from our textbook about running businesses and in the book it stated the most important things you need when you start a company is a great lawyer and an even better accountant. Another thing I learned in this course about running a business is that you have to be passionate about the field you are working in.…

That all brings me to how my experiences will push me to meet the goals I have for my academic and future career. I was not sure what I wanted to do for a career after I graduated high school due to little guidance for all the big decisions at age eighteen, and that is why I decided to “take a year off,” which is not in fact a plan for your life, but rather an excuse people use for having no clue on which direction to go in life. Although I “took the year off,” I still learned and overcame many obstacles, and all of the experiences in my life have…

When I was a child, I was told that when people grow older they have to pick one particular profession and stick with it for the rest of their lives. Also, that it was impossible to have more than one profession in your lifetime. These ideas seemed very flawed to me, and from thereon began my journey to defy the impossible. That was the time period when I realised that I wanted a career in which I could be able to experience various types of professions. A career in which I will be able to become different types of people and be able to portray their emotions myself.…
