Why I Want To Pursue College Essay

Improved Essays
I choose to pursue my education at this time because I’m 23 years old and feel like I really need to start moving forward right now if I want to live the life I want to live. I wanted to be that student who did everything right and went to a good college right out of high school but I feel very sick during my senior year and even though I tried to pursue a college education after high school I ended up having to drop out. After a long road of recovery I’m finally confident I’m healthy enough to pursue a challenge like this. I want to have kids someday but only if I know I can give them a great life full of opportunities. Right now without a college education its hard for me to see that happening. This is so important to me. I believe my studies will improve my career development by proving me with an arsenal of knowledge and tools for success. I’ve already learned so much during the first week between my first two classes such as new writing skills and new perspectives on the world economies. When I look online at different places hiring it seems like everyone wants someone with a bachelors degree to be working for them and nothing less qualifies. At least for the jobs that offer good pay and benefits, and that’s what I’m striving towards. I hope …show more content…

I have already marked my calendar up to August 2016 with all the important dates in the course calendar. Once you have a job, if you have a college degree, you are much more likely to keep it. However, an important part of keeping a job is having one in the first place. And recently, that has not been very good for recent graduates. Back in 2014, the overall unemployment rate was four point nine percent in America, but for 2013 and 2014 graduates, the unemployment rate was much higher, at eight and a half percent and the underemployment rate, saying that they don't have sufficient work, was even higher at sixteen point eight percent (Shierholz). Although the jobs may be more stable, it is more difficult for college graduates to get a job.…

Once people graduate from high school, they face one of the biggest decisions in their lives. Whether they want to risk spending money and furthering their education and going to college or a trade school or looking for a medium income job, there is no right or wrong answer. The essay "Should Everyone go to College?" is constantly stressing the point that people with a bachelor's degree statistically are shown to make more money than people with only a high school degree or an associate's degree. Owen and Sawhill says, "When we look at the life time earnings-the sum of earnings over a career-the total premium is $570,000 for a bachelor's degree and $170,000 for an associate's degree" (They Say I Say, pg 211).…

As I construct this essay for my college English class it would be very easy to tell you the reasons why not to go to college, but I won’t let finals week obstruct my real views on college education. A college education and experience is essential in life. The college experience encompasses networking with peers, figure out who you are, and what you want to do in life. The education you receive from college will also come with financial benefits because studies by the economist show that college graduates that work full time receive 17,500 more than people that only obtained a high school degree and work full time. Furthermore, college enhances employment opportunities because you are receiving specialized training for a specific field…

My Action Plan During this semester, I have discovered useful information about myself, and as I move forward, I will be using the various learning tools and skills. However, before deciding how to improve my methods of learning plan, I took the time to review my transcripts/advising worksheet. I need forty-nine credits overall, I have eighteen scheduled over the next two semesters, which includes the ones I am taking right now.…
