I am not someone who has lived all over the world, nor am I someone who has lived in one place my entire life, I stand right between. I was born in China and I do not remember much at all from living there, except I lived with a group of girls in an orphanage. After being adopted at eleven months, I was raised in an urban Cincinnati environment. I spent my whole childhood and early adolescence living there. This is where I really found community. I had a group of diverse friends who I knew I could depend on, learn from, and support through the years. We were like a family.

Another family I have discovered is the family of music. The strongest music community I have found is my orchestra family at my high school, but the foundation for my playing the violin started many years before then. I began playing the violin when I was six years old and was very fortunate to be able to take private lessons with a professional violin teacher. Starting violin early on was a challenge, but it taught me many qualities that were important to learn at a young age. By studying

I have been able to experience a variety of cultures and lifestyles because of the chances for international travel. During my sophomore year I was able to travel to Germany as a part of an exchange program with my high school orchestra. While there we were able to experience Germany’s culture and lifestyle. We stayed with host families and played our music in historic cathedrals and churches. Sharing and playing our music in Speyer, a 900 year old cathedral, was a once in a lifetime experience. I didn’t realize how unique the opportunity was until I was there playing in one of Germany’s most famous cathedrals. The students from Germany shared their love for music with us and it brought two high schools from different backgrounds together. This experience gave me a unique multicultural perspective by interacting with people who share a common

I feel I should be considered for an endowed scholarship because I work hard for this university and community. I am committed to the Loyola experience because of the love I have for this university and all those who enter it. I did not become a Resident Assistant for compensation, I applied because I thought it would be the best opportunity to provide first year students with the resources and foundation that will help them understand what Loyola can do for them and how much this university cares. The line ‘go forth and set the world on fire’ can spark something different and extraordinary to each individual. I have dedicated my entire academic career at this institution to exemplifying Magis and being ‘more’.…

Being from a diverse environment is considered to be a valuable characteristic where one can acknowledge and accept the differences in others. This person whom had experience diversity is capable of being tolerant and open with others while one maintains their own opinion firmly. Therefore many different people are able to respect and look up to those who came from a diverse environment, or that is what people say. I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…

Personally paying my way through college is just the start of the many complexities I endure as a young adult. It’s mentally challenging to put aside the worry and stress of paying for my particular degree, all while wondering if I’ll even be able to have some saved up for my career after college. My major is Acting in the Bachelor of Fine Arts and that alone is quite a risky major within the college and out in the real world. It is a dream that guarantees less of a secure, consistent and long lasting career, but I truly love theatre with all my heart and those thoughts are the reason why I’m sharpening my skills at the University of Arizona. As of now, I am relying on multiple scholarships, some that support me for one school year in which regardless I am forever grateful and others that support me as long as I am reaccepted in to the acting program.…
