Why I Want To Pursue A Master's Degree In Criminology

I am currently a sophomore at Marquette University double majoring in psychology and criminology & law studies. These two fields of study are both something I have always had a strong interest for. I started my freshmen year of college at Marian University double majoring in psychology and forensic science with a minor in chemistry, but I decided that criminology was more in my interest than was forensic science, which is why I ended up here at Marquette and I could not be happier with my decision to transfer. From a young age I was always fascinated by how the human mind works, just in general and in a criminal sense, which is what both my majors have a big focus on. When I tell people I want to work in a prison directly with inmates, I almost always get the same reaction, “that’s different” or just “wow”. Reactions like …show more content…
Being that it is a dream of mine to live in Chicago and my dream graduate school is in Chicago, it seems like a perfect fit for me. I know I am going to have to work very hard in order to reach my goal of getting accepted and I have accepted that challenge and always have in the back of my mind that everything I do is going to work out in my favor in the end. I am ultimately hoping to graduate from grad school and find work as a correctional psychologist working in a prison directly with inmates giving them psychological needs as well as looking into what made these people commit the crimes that they are incarcerated for. I do not have a specific prison system in mind I would like to work in, but I am leaning towards work in Chicago, or if that does not work out from what I have researched, correctional psychology is a growing field so I am in hopes finding employment will not be too hard for me when I am done with
