Being the prime age of eight years old, weaving into the maze of people at Quad State Field Marching Competition, was the moment I wanted to pursue a career in music. Walking back, into the same building, on the same turf, at the age of fifteen in my high school marching band uniform, is when I knew I needed to pursue a career in music. Even at the young age of eight years old, I immediately asked my father what the requirements were to be a music teacher. The only words I listened to from his long, long answer was "...college." So I got planning. Because I started planning so early, I have accomplished key skills most music majors will learn in college, like playing multiple instruments. For example, one step in my planning that I took to enhance my future in my major was learning a few instruments prior to college. Additionally to learning the piano, I have mastered two other instruments and currently learning a third. Being thorough in what requirements are needed for your major in college can create less stress as college gets closer. I created a promising future for my college life since I have already started learning skills needed for my major that others have not. My great …show more content…
From a young age, I have always been very driven to go to college. The major I have chosen to pursue at The University of Maryland - College Park, is elementary education. I chose this major because I truly enjoy working with children and hope to help educate the future generations so they can go on to be the best learners that they could possibly be. I aspire to be a role model and not only teach my students, but learn from their experiences too. I understand that teaching is not the job choice that will pay the most, but I believe that by giving back to the community and educating the future doctors, lawyers, presidents and more, I will be paid with more then just money. By teaching, I will have the satisfaction of watching my students succeed and building meaningful relationships with them at such a crucial time in their lives.…

College was a dream of mine that I saw as the first step to my success in the future, but I knew little about all the hard work and steps you would need to take before you even stepped on a college campus itself as student before the success came. When I entered high school as a freshman I was overwhelmed with the amount of work that i would have to do to more on to the next grade in my high school career. My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…

As a young adult who’s passion is school, my desire for education has always sifted my ideals away from teenage criterion. Ever since elementary school, my extreme focus to schoolwork made my overall personality different; when asked by my third grade teacher about our favorite hobbies during the summer, my answer was reading at the Peabody Public Library, whereas other students raved about their vacations to tropical paradises. Despite my love for learning, I wasn’t the most intelligent student. Competitive pressure is found in a higher volume at high school though, because several of my peers want to win the race to become the valedictorian. I have participated in that race, pushing myself for three years to complete my goal of being in the top…
