Why I Want To Pursue A Doctoral Degree In Sports Management?

―Greg Anderson. This quote speaks volumes to me and has encourage me to take another bold step in my life and career by pursuing my Doctoral degree in Sports Management. The obvious question is why now? Short answer, a renewed sense of focus, drive and purpose. More specifically, a PhD in sports management will allow me to accomplish three new goals: build a solid, successful basketball agency, teaching undergraduate and graduate level course and satisfy a personal goal.

Prior to earning my Master’s, I wanted to become a director of player development for an NCAA division one program and while it is still a possibility, my perspective has changed slightly. Often, I am asked by players how do I get overseas to play professional basketball? I always respond by saying finish earning a degree and accumulate as many statistics as possible. While that answer satisfies most, some still salivate for more. A few weeks ago, I final told myself that it is time to help those with the same dream I had of being a professional basketball player. With that, I would like to now teach undergraduate and graduate level courses at an accredited university. I was blessed and fortunate to learn from some amazing professors in college. Their knowledge and expertise motivated and inspired me to pursue excellence in my coursework. What my professors did for me, I would like to do for others. All of the positions have researched state that a doctoral degree is required to teach undergraduate or graduate level courses, so earning my doctoral degree from Concordia will satisfy this
