By working with a distressed person to become better, not only will I be able to enhance their life, but also the community will transform into a more positive place. I view transformation as a ripple effect, where changing the situation for one person eventually causes a change in the majority. This is especially true when it comes to mental illness and the stigma that surrounds it. I have been highly involved in mental health work on my college campus since my sophomore year.…

You may feel one way about a place and I do not necessarily need to feel the same. I just think there is no consistency with the social worker schedule to meet our needs, if we are available and she is not then theres no visit, and poor coordination. I texted her Saturday about this week scheduling and hoping to have a visit on Friday October 16th, 2015 she got back to me yesterday afternoon telling me that you had available Saturday but that there are not social workers available, today there is one; they wait till the very last minute. When I switched my major from Psychology to Social Work, I was deadset on getting my Bachelors in Social Work in two years and graduating in the spring. I have spent most of my time in college as a part-time student and was happy to know that the Social Work program had a very specific track for full-time and part-time students. In order to achieve my goal of completing the program in two years, I followed the full-time track. In the summer, I took 6 credit hours for some prerequisites, in the fall, I took 12 credit hours, and currently, in the Spring, I am also taking 12 credit hours. “Social workers save just as many lives as doctors do.” Those are the words that a wise professor said at my sisters graduation at USC while she earned her MSW. Those words have been engraved in my mind because I firmly believe that social workers have the ability to not only change the world but save it as well. In addition, my understanding of the social work profession is that it is a service to humanity while assisting others and putting their needs before your own. It’s about social justice and making a difference in the underprivileged and vulnerable populations and dedicating your time to improve their lives and advocate for those who might not be able to do so for themselves.…
