Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In Computer Science

I chose to pursue a degree in Computer Science because it will give me the opportunity to do what I love to do for the rest of my life. My personality type almost always forces me to think through and consider every possible option and outcome for every decision that I make. I often find myself struggling over the simplest things such as what to order at a restaurant and how I can best apply my coupons. A decision of that caliber in no way compares to the decision of what to do with the rest of my life; however, choosing my career path was one of the easiest choices that I have ever made. As a young kid growing up with my younger brother, we loved to play video games together. It was one of the best ways that we bonded and formed a relationship that stands firm today. …show more content…
My freshman year of high school I wanted to be an engineer because it seemed like a good fit for me at the time. My class spent the majority of the time modeling three dimensional objects on computers, and I found that part to be more interesting than anything related to engineering. This class sparked not only my interest in computers, but it also sparked my interest in creating things. I began to look for ways to express my newfound desires, and I settled on the thing that came most naturally to me; I wanted to create a video game. Although I could not make games on the scale of the ones that I enjoyed playing with my brother growing up, I did commit to learn and do the best that I could. I studied and taught myself how to code so that I could build an app for the iOS App Store. I launched my first app by the end of my freshman year of high school. Now, by my senior year, I have created six apps and have plans for more in the future. Computer Science was the natural next step for me as it lines up with all my interests in programming and software

Additionally, I'm somewhat of a realist--sometimes people think I'm a pessimist, but really that's just how cruel reality is. I've always favored math and science over all other subjects. As a kid I loved to build and always played with bionicles, legos and other objects. One time, I made a robot my own size out of water bottles. Both of my parents and most of my family are engineers, so it's only logical that that is what I want to do.…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year.
