Why I Want To Pursue A Career In The Medical Field

For a long time, I had been fascinated with children and how they think and how resilient they are at such a young age. I began to notice this at around the age of 13 when I began babysitting for family friends’ children. As I began to realize that I love being around children, I began to look into career fields that involve children Throughout my high school and college career, I continued to work with kids, I volunteer with many youth organizations through my school, such as the child care center on campus. The most impactful experience for me occurred while I was a sophomore in High School, a young boy that I attend school with was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. As time progressed and this boy, Bo, grew increasingly ill, I began to realize that I wanted to be someone that had the opportunity to help children. This has only strengthened my desire to pursue a career in the medical field. I want to be the person that gives my patients a new chance at life, and I want to give them hope that things will get better. I have seen first hand how hopeless people who are diagnosed with an illness become and I want to be the type of doctor that gives my patients hope, not one that takes it away. Especially in the case of children, because they haven’t even had a chance to begin living their life, and they are at risk of having it taken away. I personally believe that this should never be the case for a child, they should get a chance to experience amazing things throughout their life and becoming a pediatrician would allow me to help the achieve
