As medical students we often feel as if time for our loved ones is now restricted by the demands of our new life. We find ourselves calling home for a brief 10 minutes to hear about things we are no longer apart of, like we once were. For me this has been particularly difficult. Although he cannot always be with me in Pikeville he makes every attempt to be there when he can. Due to his job at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Jonesville, VA it is impossible for him to stay full time with me in Pikeville. His encouragement and support during my time in medical school has kept me going on days when the stress seemed too much.
My ideal core rotation site is Big Stone Gap, VA due to the fact that this site is close to my family, Cory’s family, and Jonesville, VA. Growing up in Southwest Virginia has provided me with many opportunities and it is where I will always call home. This area has given me so much and it is my desire to give back. Thus, I hope to one day practice in the surrounding area.
