It is February 1 , 1777 . So far , almost 3,000 people are already sick , and many have died . We are unprepared for this freezing winter , and food is scarce. I would leave Valley Forge . I would not want to live in these horrible conditions . We have a scarce amount of food , nothing to sleep on , crowded huts to live in , no winter clothing for the numbing cold , and the air clouded with smoke .
