Another reason why I want to go to college would also be because I want to see what it is like to attend a college and at least try it out. In high school, besides being a member of the National Honor Roll, taking Advanced Placement courses, and playing on the Varsity Girl’s tennis team, I also had a love for tutoring. I started tutoring my sister, friends’ siblings, and those struggling academically. As part of my community service during my undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley (UCB), I tutored at Willard Middle School because Willard students do not typically aspire to pursue a higher education. I hope I was able to instill an appreciation of science and influence them to attend college. I also enjoyed learning foreign languages.…

As a high school senior, the question I am most used to hearing is, “where do you want to go to college,” and my habitual response is the Wharton Undergraduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. But I think that the more apt question is “why do you want to go to college?” Personally, I want to learn. The Wharton motto of “knowledge for action” embodies this desire to learn and use this knowledge to pursue a career in something that engages and interests me. I am an aspiring investment banker and international business executive and am intrigued by mergers and acquisitions, investment banking from an international perspective, and the effect of international events on the global economy and the ensuing effect on corporations.…

There was a distant hope, of course, that I would be the first in my family to attend college, but it was never stressed. It was this very value that I feel held me back from achieving that goal in some ways. My parents work so hard to get by that it almost seemed selfish of me to go off to school and further their burden. Looking back now, I have come to realize how wrong that was in many ways. “By the end of the 1950s, college attendance had risen dramatically, and a college degree was viewed as the key to professional status, which in turn was seen as embodying an American ethos: advancement built on merit and hard work, not birth”…

University of Madison-Wisconsin is unique in that it’s the only school located in our state capital. Therefore, some reasons I would like to attend this university would be because of its academic diversity, location, and size of the campus. As of now, my intended major is definitely undecided because I have no ideas what I plan on doing with the rest of my life. I presume that the University of Madison-Wisconsin, with its 136 majors, will be able to provide me with many different academic opportunities. I favor this because then, if I end up changing my major or wanting a certificate, I wouldn’t have to switch college because Madison is full of many different academic options.…

School is a laborious job that requires full attention and in my early years, I never really thought about how the classes I took could very well determine my future when applying for colleges. My parents always told me to focus on my school work and take hard classes, but I never really took that to heart. Freshman year, my grades weren't the best, I know I could've done so much better, my laziness could never take me anywhere. Heading into my sophomore year, my GPA was rather low and when my guidance counselor finally opened my eyes to putting more effort forth after she saw me struggling, she taught me a lot and I am forever grateful.…

Then I thought to myself, that’s impossible or that’s not worth dreaming about. I’ve doubted myself over and over again, I never thought I’d be smart enough or just good enough to go to college. The dream still existed, and I realized that it would help me succeed if I kept pushing towards my goals, that’s what stuck with me since.…

My hope of attending college is that I will accomplish my goal of continuing on in my life and finding a path of life that best suits me. ‘’Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’’, this quote by Nelson Mandela shows that education is limitless and by attending college, I can further my education to the point where things that I thought were unimaginable could now be at the grasps of my fingertips. All of this hope that is instilled in me comes from motivation from my parents, they constantly praise and show gratitude towards me for being able to proceed past them because they didn’t have the opportunity to get the same quality education as I am getting now. My parents and my sister were always by my side throughout this journey from first applying to Hudson County Community College to now being accepted into Hudson Community College, and with this motivation and reassurance I feel confident that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to.…

So, I worried about nothing but test scores, since it seemed to me that colleges gave a lot of money for students with high test scores. Once college application time came around, I realized a major problem. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do in my life. I knew what fields of education interested me the most (computer engineering & mechanical engineering), but I didn’t have a plan for after college. I simply wanted to go to college and get an education, then find some job and raise a family – a rather ordinary way of life that seemed “ideal” to…
