Why I Want To Go To College

My family struggles and situation have inspired me to actually want to go to college and I want to inspire my family to do the same. My story begins with my parents’ circumstances. I was born in Peru and my parents never got married. At the time, they both had not graduated from college; yet therefore, we had financial problems. My mom eventually became a single mother. It was a hard childhood; I would often switch schools and since my mom was still in college, I would not see her as much. I stayed with uncles and family friends, instead of living with my mom. My mom did not graduate from college but still managed to get a technical job as a secretary. She came to the United States to look for a better job and in the process, she found her husband.
My step-dad also did not graduate from college; he did not even finish high school. He managed to still be the owner of his family company. He is the one that helped my mom come to this country. I have lived with him for 8 years now, in contrast to my dad, whom I have lived with for two years. My step-dad basically raised me. Unfortunately, he suffered from a heart attack which led to a stroke; he is now unconscious and cannot speak nor walk nor eat. I always wonder how he would feel if he could actually see all my accomplishments. That inspires me to continue working

My dad recently graduated from a college in Peru this year, and my brother, from a different father, graduated last year in this country. Since most of my extended family is in Peru, the younger part of my family would not have anyone to look up to. I want to set an example for them; I want to be that person that inspires them to continue education--especially for my younger brother, father's side, who struggles in school. He basically has a "I do not care" attitude but I want to teach him that continuing and trying hard in education are going to bring him a successful
