Why I Want To Go To College Essay

Go to school and follow the rules, get an education and play it safe, get a job and do as you’re told, earn money and live a life...this routine is what society values. When the life is over, one’s contribution and earned money will be considered insignificant. Unlike most, I want to create a memorable and contributive existence that will impact communities all around. With science and business, I want to leave a footprint in the sand of time. In order to accomplish my goal, education is essential. At a young age, my parents have instilled in me the significance of learning, a love for science, and the importance of risk taking. Now, I strive to transfer to an institution with a well-developed science program where my passion will flourish. In the future, I hope to start a business to make an impact and give back to the community.
As a child, I was just as curious as a bug, crawling all over examining the world and objects around me. Slowly, this curiosity grew into my enjoyment of finding out what makes everything move.

In high school, a quote by Carl Sagan, an astrophysicist, inspired me to pursue my dream further as he said “Science is more than a body of knowledge. It is a way of thinking.” I began to look at the how the universe works and how everything is connected. I want to continue to develop that “way of thinking” throughout college by studying physics, performing research, and then creating a business in the future.
During my time at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), I had many highlights. Working with Space Exploration Research Group gave me experience in doing small research with nozzle and cubesat designs. Being part of the Launch Initiative (Rocket Club) team has not only shown me the importance of team work, but has also taught me the process that is required to design and build a

It is with immense enthusiasm that I submit my application for the Associate Consultant (AC) position at Bain & Company. I concentrate in Chemistry and Physics, but my passions extend well beyond rigorous science, particularly in creating impact both in the community and among my peers. My conversation with Angela Yang, a current AC, convinced me that Bain is the ideal firm for me to broaden my intellectual horizons while making meaningful impacts on an array of industries and fields. Through my experience as Co-Director of the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter, I have developed strong leadership and interpersonal skills. In my weekly eight-hour shifts, I lead a team of 10 volunteers to provide food and shelter services for over 24 walk-in clients while also conducting client meetings, answering phone calls, and running entrance lotteries.…

What began as a simple childlike fascination with space and aviation when I watched my first episode of Star Trek as a young girl, has followed me through the years, subtly influencing my choices throughout my studies. To me, the engineers in that series were the true heroes; no matter what happened, they were always able to draw out a “little more power” or come up with the creative work-around (albeit at the last second) that allowed the crew to collectively maneuver themselves out of whatever tight spot they were in and achieve their mission goal. I became enthralled with the idea of pushing technology, and the human body, to its limits, and soon found myself enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania as a bioengineering major and center of their women’s basketball team. While I was fortunate enough to receive many personal accolades during my time at UPenn, the two that are most important to me are winning the Ivy League Championship and being named a Sports Ilustrated on Campus Glue Gal - an award given to a handful of people across the country who "do all the little things" and…

Growing up is was no question whether or not I was going to college, it was an automatic yes for me. For my participation in the annual Saint Francis University Science Day, I was a moderator for the “Science Bowl” competition. From the beginning of the day (8:30 am), I helped set up the competition areas, met with the judge, timekeeper, and the scorekeeper in order to establish the proper positions that we all needed in order to make the Science Bowl competition rounds run quickly at our station. Once the competition started at 9:30, I introduced myself and asked everyone on both of the high school teams to introduce themselves to each other and encouraged Evan (the judge) , Blake (the timekeeper) , and Ryan (the scorekeeper) to introduce themselves as well to the high school students participating in the competition.…

The Honors Program has been a journey over the past year as I have been becoming increasingly involved in my project, academic community, and the honors program at large. The role of a scientist in the world has grown progressively clearer for me. The experiences leading to this evolution of definition have been my interactions with peers within and outside of my field, role models in science, and pure experimental experience. The most impactful interactions with peers have always corresponded with some explanation of what my work has consisted of.…

Writing about my career goals is a struggle, even after a possible eighteen years of thought. Since elementary school I have switched my career goal five times; first I wanted to be an engineer, then a biochemist, then a veterinarian, then a pharmacist, and now, an environmental scientist. Over time, I have realized that they all stem from an urge to use my scientific proficiency to make the world a better place for current and future generations. Now, I cannot think of a better way to do this than to pursue environmental science at Huxley College starting this winter quarter.…

Before the summer of my sophomore year, I had not thought about my post high school plans beyond knowing I would like to attend college. However, I attended a STEM camp at Valparaiso University in Indiana where I met former astronaut and Naval Academy graduate, Ken Ham. He inspired me to not only begin my own flight training, but to start investigating the Naval Academy. The more I learned about the Naval Academy and the different opportunities that serving as an officer in the military presented, the more determined I became to attend. I understand that the decision to attend a service academy is not to be taken lightly.…

As a Colorado native, I spent much time in the mountains, hiking, skiing, camping, and I've developed an admiration for nature. Of my family, I’m the most skilled at spotting wildlife, from brown bears in the neighborhood, tadpoles in ponds, monk seals on beaches (when my mother was convinced it was a rock), to eagles on trees, I've always paid attention to the creatures around me. Eventually in freshman year I began to seriously study the sciences, and the capabilities of applying them. For a group project we had to study a possible treatment for some current problem or disease, and my group chose to research Alzheimer's. Enthusiastically I exploded into action, researching every possible observation made about Alzheimer’s; at the beginning of…

This report summarizes my 20-year design challenge and it provides a general layout of how I am planning to map out my University education while shaping my pathway to success. Moreover, it also focuses on my current goals as a 1-st year university student, who will slowly mature and develop as a graduate student. Certain sections in this report talk about pathways I may consider down the road, but nothing is set in stone and I will continue to learn more about myself. Currently, if I was to answer the question of where I want to be with my life in 20 years, I would preferably hope to be working in the renewable energy or aviation industry. I want to be an engineer who works with a team to find new renewable energy or even modify previous equipment…
