Valley Forge was a winter camp for the colonists during December, 1777-1778. The colonists trained and fought there with courage, but some have died from diseases and lack of food. However, if I had been a soldier at Valley Forge, I would have stayed and fought with the other colonists instead of running away or quitting. One reason I would stay is because in the article “Estimates of Deaths at Valley Forge (Doc A)”, it states that only 1,800 people died out of 12,000 people in December. That is less than half of the people. Which is only 15% of the colonists. That means 85% of the colonists lived at Valley Forge. This percentage shows that there wasn’t as high of a death risk as people expected during the war. The second reason is because in the diary of Dr. Waldo, it says, “Yet they still show a spirit after everything that has happened.” Even though they have been in battle and some have lost their life fighting, the colonists still show commitment for freedom. Which gives them courage, strength, and hope, instead of fear and becoming cowards by running away during a battle.
