Why I Want To Come To America

What do I mean by Chinese Conservative? It is the belief that my country——China, will always be my protector and it has the best things around the world. Besides the power of United States, you also have to admit that “Made in China” is on most goods. Then why do I want to come to America? I asked the same question when I was suggested to study in America. Even though the Chinese education system is stressful, but there is no easy way towards success, isn’t it? Eventually, I decided to give it a try and see what it looks like on the other side of the Pacific. It is so memorable for me when my first day of school was the day of Winter Formal. Everyone was dressed up nicely with proper manners. What about me? I was so strange to …show more content…
School started a few days after Winter Formal, I finally figured out where my classrooms were and accepted the truth that I had to go to teachers’ classrooms for classes. How is it even possible if I am in China? Students should sit in the classroom and teachers will come to us, isn’t it easier for students? Especially for the concern of safety, isn’t that better? One day after school, I went to a girl’s basketball game. I’ve never seen a school could be united into such a close relationship. Everyone would yell the names of the players for cheering them up. Until this moment, I suddenly realized there was something that I’ve been missing for a long while—— the group spirit. “Hey Nan, have you ever heard the event of Tian’an Men Square?” asked by my world history teacher, I was thinking for a while and answered “I know where Tian’an Men Square is, but I have never heard the event of Tian’an Men Square.” It felt so weird that when someone was telling me the story in my home country that I had never heard about. I started to become aware that the brutal facts were hidden behind the Chinese history textbook and the truths were so sensitive to talk

American’s First Amendment gives us many significant freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to assembly, Communist China doesn’t have any of these freedoms if it goes against the People’s Government. In Fan Shen’s book, Gang of One Memoirs of a Red Guard, he had no rights to believe or say anything different from what the government wants. Shen is born and grows in a Chinese Communist family in Red China, and he tries to escape the legal way because if he doesn’t it would cause problems for his family. It is difficult to know what it is like not having freedom of speech when we have grown up with it, Shen was not as lucky, he grew up in a world without the basic freedom that is given to us in the First Amendment;…

I had lived in a village for 9 years of my life it was hard making new friends since everyone knew each other. There wasn’t any need of socializing to make new friends, so it turned me into a nonsocial person. My parents didn’t know a single English word; neither did my older brother and I.…

Growing up in Gondar, Ethiopia I was exposed to diverse groups of people, ideas, and experiences. In Ethiopia religion is a big part of everyone’s life, therefore, the community functions in accordance to religious rules and regulations. In addition the Ethiopian community is centralized around hard work and perseverance. In Ethiopia the children are expected to help around the house more than usual. For example, the daily routine of an Ethiopian child may be to go to a nearby lake and bring back water or go to the market to buy some groceries.…

There was an ongoing communication, in which we would have to explain about the event and the purpose of it. These interactions helped build a strong cohesion within our group and gave us a sense of belonging and togetherness. Likewise, the gestures and body language of each dynasty was different, but relevant to their chant. There was fist pumping and high fiving, clapping, and providing motivation and positive encouragement to other teams during competitions. These simple but yet significant gestures helped to build a stronger group, emotionally and socially.…

Although I did not immigrate to America like Choi’s parents, I agree that immigration should be open to all countries to give everyone an equal opportunity to prosper. America is known as the land of opportunity; to take away someone's opportunity because they are from a country where there terrorism exists is a disgrace. Not everyone from a country that has terrorism is a terrorist. Throughout my time working for the Equal Justice Initiative I have learned you can not judge people on their past without knowing their entire story. President Trump does not have the full story of everyone he has banned.…

For starters, I felt that this entire situation was somewhat ironic. Fleeing war, fearing for their life and dreaming of a better life far from the poverty and upheaval of their unstable nations, hundreds of thousands are flocking to Europe's shores (Smith-Spark, 2015). This statement immediately reminded me of why people immigrate to America, everyone is sold on the American dream and want to come here to better themselves. And the reason people are fleeing to the country is not just for opportunities, but more than anything it is for safety. I feel that although things are becoming overcrowded the citizen are being very insensitive.…

Immigration is a part of our American history, so is illegal immigration. It’s an important chapter that is written anew every day of our lives. Everyone who lives here is an immigrant. Even Native Americans, who lived here before the first Europeans arrived (Morrow 5). Americans don’t realize the struggle immigrants go through to have a better life and to give their kids and family everything they couldn’t on the other side.…

However, the reasons of why families decide to immigrate to the United States usually include to live a better life for the children. While the family is excited to immigrate to the place with better opportunities, there is a positive attitude the family is using all together. However when the family is acculturating together, some issues may arise. One of them is acculturation gap, which is caused by the parents acculturating at a slower rate than their children (Tummala-Narra & Sathasivam-Rueckert, 2016).…

“I don’t know” I can still distinctly recall my eleven-year-old self repeatedly saying to anyone who tried to talk to me. It was my first day of school in America and that was the only sentence I could put together in English. I was born in China and lived there my whole life until my mother decided to move to New York. I thought I was just visiting her for winter break, but she dropped me off at school just a week after my arrival. As my new classmates tried to talk to me, I can see their mouth moving but they might as well be speaking gibberish.…

Leaving the country where you have spent most of your time growing up is not as easy as drinking a water, especially when you need to move and stay in another country for the rest of your life. It sounds so depressing and scary for me, until I did the interview of a person that immigrate to the United State for this assignment. The person that I interviewed was Kyori Anse. In the United States of America live 300 million people (worldometer). The US accepts people into the country based on their citizenship. People who don’t have to prove that they know about their heritage, they are simply born into American citizenship. Then there is the other population of people who deserve the same acceptance as the rest: the group of 42.1 million legal immigrants trying to fit in with the average American (Center For Immigration Studies). This group of people works hard and are ridiculed for being immigrants.…
