I worked in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens; by twenty-one, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and strived for my first job out of university. That summer, I joined Humane Society Naples and worked as a veterinary assistant, while also volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in wildlife rehabilitation. This is my turning point and reminds me of Claudia at age seven, who wanted to save animals. The most vivid and unforgettable part of my time there was seeing the transformation of the animal’s health and behavior. From the time, they come into the shelter, scared and sometimes in pain, to then being apart of the team to medically assess and treat them, to witness their ability to play with other animals, and then to the joys of adopters coming in looking for their forever pet, is…

This created a sense of compassion for me because I learned how to take care of a variety of animals and I learned how to react quickly to new situations. I discovered that each animal has a different behavior and needs unique treatment. I knew that when I grew up I wanted to work with animals but I never knew what I exactly wanted to so. I luckily had the opportunity to help a cow give birth and to aid in a tumor surgery on a dog.…

Like most young girls, I dreamt of being a veterinarian when I grew up. Of course, at first, little girls simply wish to be surrounded by "cute" animals, not understanding completely what the true position demanded. In school I studied biology and discovered a unique love for the subject, one in which I had never experienced with any other academic area before. Growing older still, I regarded the world around me and realized how great of a demand there was for all practices of doctors and scientists.…
