Activities like managing a big part of my school's environmental club and leading a number of students has helped me develop bonds between them. Most of the people I deal with have different cultures than mine, therefore my exposure to different minds has had an effect on me. In the area I live in, there is a mix of many different cultures. I’ve lived in the same area for almost 14 years and I've seen different culture groups grow and others slowly decrease. The language the was usually heard when I first moved in has also changed throughout the years and has had an impact on the type of people I now interact with on the daily basis. With the different cultures growing and moving into the neighborhood I live in I have begun to see a change in the type of local shops, clothing, and food. Even at the local schools, I can see the changes in culture and how schools try to have better interactions with the children.…

The number one thing I learned in today’s class on cross-cultural competencies was how important situational awareness can be when it comes to counterinsurgency tactics. It’s not always important to know how the entire country works, but more about the people you interact with on a daily basis.…

Our own personal culture that we are familiar with and a part of can shape how we view ourselves very deeply. It gives us a defining sense of self and can dictate what our values become. Experiencing another culture could have a negative impact, especially for those who are inexperienced with their own heritage.…

It was summer, one month after my 17th birthday, and, even though I had a lot of great adventures with the people I loved, I still wasn 't satisfied. So I took of work, grabbed my two best friends, Trey and Parker, and we set out on nonstop adventure for 3 days, which led to a Whataburger bill of over $100, running from security, meeting and talking to complete strangers, 4 hours of sleep, killer stories, a run in with the cops, a few tanks of gas, and what would this story be with coming close dying once or twice, I mean its only in my nature.…
