My OPA when I was a freshman was part of the reason I applied to the OPA program. My OPA was uninvolved in the program and did not care about me or my experiences at WashU and didn't bother to answer any questions. I knew that I wanted to be a better OPA to my mentees than my OPA was to me. Over this past summer, when I received my mentees, I reached out to them immediately and they never answered me... When August came around, I didn't let that hold me back! I loved getting to know my OPA mentees and letting them know that I am there for them for any questions they have or need advice about what classes to take. I was determined to be a better OPA than he was and I think I was successful. Peer Mentoring is my favorite part of the OPA program. Like I stated earlier, I am extremely organized which is necessary for the Peer Mentor Director. It is important to be on top of the work for Peer Mentor Director because this position is based on the OPA's interactions with their mentees and it is important that they are fostering that relationship.
