Why I Want To Be An Athletic Director

The career I am choosing for my research project for Amanda Lumbreraz is to be an athletic director. Being an athletic director comes with many tasks and responsibilities. I learned some of these tasks and responsibilities while shadowing our schools athletic director, Mike Gain. I learned some more through research on the internet and library. Some of the responsibilities include the hiring of coaches, teaching classes, coaching teams, and dealing with parents of athletes. An athletic director makes most of the big decisions when it comes to sports at schools. An athletic director’s main goal is to build a winning sports program at whatever school they are at. An athletic director set athletic policies within a school and enforces them. They oversee the hiring and firing of coaches for all sports. An athletic director may work with a coach to better the …show more content…
If an athletic director finds out about a violation on one of his teams and doesn’t report it to UIL or take the necessary disciplinary actions he could lose his job and get the school in trouble. Most schools require that an athletic director has a bachelor’s degree although some may require a masters. A degree in sports management, psychology, and physical education are the most desired degrees to be an athletic director. Before being hired most athletic directors need some experience as an intern or being a coach previously. An athletic director has to be able to multitask, make hard choices under pressure, and solve problems. If there is a dispute between a coach and a player or a coach and a parent the athletic director may need to step in and make the best decision on whatever argument they are having. It is important for an athletic director to have all their athletes eligible to play so they will work with other school administrators to make sure the academic requirements are
