Some people might roll their eyes at how cliché it is but I believe in fate and that every step you’ve taken will lead you to your calling. Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

Occupational therapy a career that is chosen when you want to assist those that have the desire to better themselves; you assist them in assisting themselves. Occupational therapist should inquire the patient by asking “What matters to you?” not, “What’s the matter with you?” (American Occupational Therapy Association, About Occupational Therapy). There are many goals of occupational therapy, but the over-arching task is preparing and executing therapeutic interventions so that patients can perform activities of daily living, or ADLs, more efficiently and independently.…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers and tons of grease.…

My Dream: I was around 20 years old and living in New York City, just coming back from work. I don’t remember precisely what I did as a job, but I saw myself walking out of the hospital and coming back home to a tiny apartment in the middle of the city. The scene shifted to the next morning when I was traveling to Atlanta to see my family, but I found out that my sister had passed away and my parents never told me. She had gotten into a car accident the day before and I came at the worst time. I went to her funeral and all I remember is crying and reading a…

To wake up one day and realize that I abhor the job to which I devoted an entire life was my greatest fear, until one experience. I closed my eyes and thought for a minute “Only three years ago, this girl came to America with no word of English and now I achieved even more than I expected.” I walked out of the elevator with my knees shaking. This was my first day of my internship at New York Economic Development Corporation. However, if somebody told me at that time that this job would change my life forever, I would just laugh.…

One of the things that I still have a hard time trying to understand is racism. I ask myself many times why people can’t get along with each other and put aside their differences for once and just to treat everyone equal. I also think about how unrealistic it is to ask for something so simple because people will always judge no matter how many movements or speeches you make, or how much you try to stop it because people stick to their beliefs and are ignorant to change even if it is for good. With that in mind you can still try make the ignorant understand because in my opinion if i have changed at least one person to be more caring and understand of other races that it is really worth it.…
