Why I Want To Be A Prosecutor

Improved Essays
Justice Robert Jackson once said, “The prosecutor has more control over life, liberty, and reputation than any other person in America” (Neubauer, Fradella 2017 pg 155). I have always wanted to become a police officer, but if I could be a major actor in a courtroom it would be a prosecutor. It’d be a prosecutor because I love to argue. Prosecutors are lawyers who investigate, charge, and take to trial people whom they think have committed a crime (Portman). The reason I would want to become a prosecutor for that matter is I do not represent anyone. I am intended to serve where justice needs to be handled. Since I would be voted in I cannot be swindled or bought. I would not want to be a judge for your same reason. I cannot decide a life of

While in private practice you need to advocate a side, as a judge you need to put aside your own opinion and evaluate only what is presented. You need to be able to look at the case objectively, even if it is not a ruling you want to make. You need to have a good temperament so that you can act professional. Judge Monica told me that she tries to act professional, though sometimes it is hard due to the litigants deliberately trying to provoke her and that you need to be level headed. She believes that you need to be a good writer.…

The most interesting part about this job is the verdict of the case. I say this because you never now what the judge may decide , all you can do is ready the case carefully and make sure your client isn't holding anything from you. I enjoyed the experience of watching a Civil case, however I didn’t enjoy how much paper work Mrs. Julie had to complete. She became quit frustrated when all her case work became disorganized because of her shuffling through it so much. I wouldn’t enter this career because I have no interest in this line of work.…

    i) The prosecutorial system is excessive From the Kerman story, I have no doubt the US prosecutorial system is very excessive as the system been taken way too far. It is noted that the system has been growing out of control without any sort of serious thought, vision or clear sense of purpose for the inmates. The system is inefficient, very costly and destructive as depicted in the book. The system is said to deprive many individuals of chances or opportunities because those resources directed to prison would be directed to a better course: construction and maintenance of schools, health care facilities, drug rehabilitation centers. It is also conceived that instead of the system bringing about measures to curb crime, it is at the center of creating the same crimes in the first place as many inmates are prosecuted and not assisted in the greater path of reforming or rehabilitation thus, many of them frequently end up before the courts and prosecuted by the same prosecutors after serving their prison or jail sentence on a minor offence.…

After reading the article, “The Prosecutor’s Contribution to Wrongful Conviction” I found the information discussed to be interesting. As someone who wants to be an attorney following graduation from law school, it was somewhat eye opening to learn more about the role prosecutors play in wrongful convictions, especially when a lot of the focus regarding wrongful convictions seem to be on the investigators, rather than the adversarial system. I found the quote from Berger v. United States that discusses how the responsibility of a prosecutor is that “guilt shall not escape or innocence suffer” to be particularly interesting. Although the system is suppose to assume all is innocent until proven guilty, evidence suggests prosecutors often work…

Criminal lawyers have obligations towards the law and the civil society. As we look at the American Justice System today, we often noticed that lawyers tend to work more closely with the judicial system than with the public. Lawyers have not only failed the justice system but also the institution they have swore to serve. Lawyers have failed in their everyday practice to ensure that our current criminal system functions consistently with our rights and values. Prosecutors have become more interested in accomplishing their own career goals than to serve their society.…

If I had just graduated from law school I would want to be a prosecutor. I like the thought of having to find evidence and witnesses to use against the defense. In my high school criminal justice class we had to do a mock trail each year and the prosecution always interested me. Prosecutors review reports, meet with the victims or witnesses, and they gather information to use in court against the defendant. I have always been interested in finding evidence so being a prosecutor is the best option of the two.…

Police officers and prosecutors work together to make sure that they are well-prepared for court. Police officers posses the cases originally and then they are handed over to the State's attorney's office, where they are prepared for court. Misdemeanor cases start at the district court level, here the officer and the prosecutor work together in order to prepare all of the evidence in the State's possession, make sure that all witnesses have been interviewed, and that the case is ready to go to trial. Police officers and prosecutors have very different opinions on what makes a good case. Officers are usually worried that the prosecutor’s priorities might be different from public safety needs, and prosecutors are concerned that more arrests might raise their caseload without serving community justice.…
